The prices of these truly amazing wireless earbuds just dropped to their lowest price on Black Friday.

You may be wondering what sets these earbuds apart. After all, what can you expect from an entry-level low-priced earbud? I had the same mindset when I re-reviewed in May. What followed was a pleasant surprise. Not only have these earbuds exceeded my expectations, but they’ve also become my go-to earbuds for everything from calls to casual music listening. Even though I own several pairs of wireless earbuds and neckbands, I always end up grabbing the Nord Buds when I step outside or do a quick video call. From design and comfort to sound quality, there’s a lot to like about the Nord Buds. Let me break it down for you.

The first indicator that usually gives cheap earphones is the design. Most earphones under $50 sound bland and uninspiring. But look at these earbuds; It’s definitely a breath of fresh air and luxury apart from the AirPods imitations you usually see at this price. Do they look anything like $40 buds? Most people had a hard time believing these earphones cost less than $40.

I also love how comfortable the OnePlus Nord Buds are. For someone whose ears get irritated easily because of the silicone tips, I can wear these buds for hours on end without discomfort. The OnePlus Nord Buds CE (not available in the US) are still the most comfortable earbuds I’ve ever tried, but the Nord Buds come in at a close second. The Nord Buds offer impressive noise isolation, mitigating a fair amount of low-end rumble and human chatter. That’s fine because there’s no active noise cancellation here.

The best thing about the Nod Buds is their sound quality. Featuring large 12.4mm titanium-coated dynamic drivers, Nord Buds produce rich, bass-driven sound that exceeds expectations. They don’t sound anything like sub-$40 earphones. There’s an excitement to the Nord Buds’ sound that you don’t generally see at this price. If you’re not a fan of the bass profile, the companion HeyMelody app provides additional sound profiles and an equalizer that takes things into your own hands. You also get Dolby Atmos support, but it’s locked to select OnePlus flagships.

Understandably, the OnePlus Nord Buds lose out on high-quality codecs like aptX and LDAC. The default SBC and AAC codecs are fine for streaming music and video but not for gaming. Lucky for gamers, however, there’s a low-latency game mode (in the MyMelody app) that keeps the audio and visuals in sync when playing online multiplayer games.

Battery life is also very strong. These buds last up to seven hours on continuous use and up to 30 hours with the charging case. They also support fast charging, with a 10-minute recharge giving you up to 5 hours of listening time.

Call performance isn’t bad – there are two microphones on each earphone. OnePlus says there’s an AI algorithm that reduces background noise and wind noise, so you’re heard more clearly on calls. But in my experience, it’s not that effective at suppressing noise when you’re out in a coffee shop or heavy traffic.

In my review of the OnePlus Nord Buds, I only had good things to say about them. There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with this product, and omissions like ANC mode and transparency are entirely justified when you consider the price and target audience. If you’re in the market for wireless earbuds that sound good, look good, and have great battery life under $50, I can’t recommend the OnePlus Nord Buds enough.
