The doodle honors Gerald “Jerry” Lawson, inventor of the video game cartridge

Today’s Google Doodle honors Gerald “Jerry” Lawson, inventor of the video game cartridge, with a fun experience that lets you play and create old school video games. Doodle includes five games that you can play right away on the homepage of the search engine, and it even has an editor to help you easily design your own game and share it with friends.

Developed in partnership with three artists and game designers, Davionne Gooden, Lauren Brown, and Momo Pixel, Doodle introduces players to Jerry Lawson through a short experience that also introduces you to key controls and editing features. Once you complete the tutorial, you are taken to one of five mini-games created by artists and game designers.

The editor gives you access to various customizations, including different player models, building blocks, checkpoints and bonuses, enemies, modes, and more.
