Lindsey Buckingham honors Christine McPhee

As the tribute continues to Fleetwood Mac singer/keyboardist Christine McPhee, who died Wednesday at the age of 79 after a brief illness, former bandmate Lindsey Buckingham posted a touching tribute to her on social media.

“Kristin McPhee’s untimely death is absolutely heartbreaking. Not only were she and I part of the magical Fleetwood Mac family, but Kristen was to me a musical companion, friend, soul mate, and sister. For more than four decades, we have helped each other create an incredible body of work and legacy A lasting message that still resonates today. I feel so fortunate to have known her. Although she will be sorely missed, her spirit will live on through this work and this legacy.”

The post includes a handwritten note similar to that of the Stevie Nicks group, which was posted on Wednesday.

Notorious for splits, the classic Fleetwood Mac lineup featured Nicks, Buckingham, McPhee and her first husband John McPhee splitting while recording their groundbreaking 1977 album “Rumours,” one of the best-selling albums of all time. The group split up in the mid-1980s and has reunited on tours and/or albums several times, sometimes with all five members and sometimes not.

Oddly enough, the latest split came after Buckingham and Christine McPhee released a 2017 duet album, and then the group performed a tribute to a 2018 MusiCares event in 2018. Buckingham was fired from the band and replaced by Crowded House’s Neil Finn. and Tom Petty and Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell.
