The Galaxy Z Flip 5 could have a larger cover display and an updated hinge

The larger cover screen could address one of the foldable phone’s biggest shortcomings

Although Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4 brought many improvements over its predecessor, it did not address one of the biggest issues users faced with the Galaxy Z Flip 3. The smartphone still features a small and mostly unusable cover screen, Which means you still have to flip the phone over. It unlocks the phone every time you want to do anything substantial. While you can work around this limitation by using third-party apps like CoverScreen OS, the cover screen’s small footprint makes the experience feel somewhat overwhelming. This may not be the case with the next generation Galaxy Z Flip 5 if a recent leak is to be expected.

According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have a much larger cover display. Young claims the cover screen on the next-generation foldable could be 3 inches or larger, making it far more useful than the 1.9-inch cover screen on previous models.

With a larger Cover Screen, Samsung could also improve the Cover Screen software experience in the upcoming model. However, we don’t have any information about this at the moment. In addition to the larger Cover Screen, Young claims the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature an updated hinge design that should reduce the visibility of a crease. This is another welcome change that could help the Galaxy Z Flip 5 reach the same, if not higher, level of popularity as the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

However, we’ll have to wait a while to find out for sure, as Samsung will likely unveil its next generation of foldable devices in August next year. Currently, the company is preparing to launch the highly anticipated Galaxy S23 series, which will arrive in February, according to recent leaks.
