Season 2 of HBO’s The White Lotus is in full swing, featuring lush visuals of Sicily and, to some viewers’ shock, an extra scene featuring cast member Theo James.
During the first episode of the second season, James’ character, Cameron Babcock, is seen wearing a swimsuit from Harper Spiller’s (Aubrey Plaza) hotel room. While she is looking for sunblock, Cameron is seen in the background taking off his pants and changing. Harper and the viewer watch Cameron change and the scene leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination. Inquiring minds wanted to know if James, famous for banning all members of HBO from “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” was wearing a fake organ or if, in any case, he was the real thing.
It turns out the member in question was a dildo, James confirmed during an appearance on Friday’s broadcast of “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.” Using a prosthetic body part is a common practice in television and movies. In fact, The White Lotus had already used a dildo for Steve Zahn’s character in season one.
“So, you go into these scenes, you have a conversation with the director and the producers, and they say, ‘Okay, for this, we’re going to use a prosthesis.'” .. And you say, “Well, that looks good,” James shared.
The actor recalled discussions he had with head of make-up Rebecca Hickey. James said he told Hickey, “I just wanted it not to be distracting. It should be ‘normal Joe’.” Because the scene, you know, it’s not about peeing, it’s about playing power and sex. It’s about whether he did it on purpose or what. If it was an accident and what does that mean. You say, I got you. Yeah, I got you. Normal Joe.”
When James saw the prosthesis, he joked about the size, which according to Hickey was regular. “I mean, it’s bigger than that. It’s like she stole it off a donkey in the field!” he joked. “The thing is massive.”

The scene still makes a great impression on viewers. “I love prestige TV!” wrote one hilarious fan.

Another shared an infographic, also questioning the real vs. the artificial penis.
In an interview with ETJames said his nudity was toned down and added, “It’s interesting, [because] At first…we don’t know if it was intentional or not [if] It’s accidental. But it reveals itself… The initial version we shot was too much. So, we made a more accurate version.” James is likely referring to the fact that he shot from the back, not the entire front.
At the season’s premiere party, Megan Fahey, who plays sunny housewife Daphne, quipped, “I think Season 2 is more engaging, and it’s a little bit more sinister right off the bat. It’s really action-packed, in fact — I think people are going to be surprised.”
“The White Lotus” premieres the penultimate episode of its second season on Sunday night.
