‘Skinamarink’: Shudder is acquiring a horror movie, and it’s going to be headed to theaters

Shudder’s “Skinamarink,” a micro-budget horror film that received an internet buzz after debuting at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival, will receive a theatrical release via IFC Midnight, starting Jan. 13. Later in 2023.

Kyle Edward Poole, who wrote, produced and directed “Skinamarink,” said in a statement.

In the official synopsis, “Two children wake up in the middle of the night to find their father missing, and all the windows and doors in their house gone. To cope with the strange situation, the two bring pillows and blankets into the living room and settle into a quiet party state. They play rickety videotapes of cartoons to fill in.” The silence of the house distracts attention from the inexplicable, frightening situation. All the while hoping that some grown-up will come to their rescue at last. However, after a while it becomes clear that something is watching them.”

“Skinamarink” has been inspiring interest in recent months as horror fans on social media platforms such as TikTok, Reddit and Letterboxd discuss the unconventional film, which mixes atmospheric horror with a production quality reminiscent of a mix of spooky footage found online and the lo-fi experience. -fi for David Lynch’s work.

The film stars Lucas Paul, Daley-Rose Tetro, Ross Paul, and Jaime Hill. It is executive produced by Edmond Rota, Ava Karvonen, Bonnie Lewis, Alain Lewis, Josh Duke and Jonathan Barkan.

The deal was negotiated by Emily Gotto, Shudder’s vice president of global acquisitions and co-productions, and Peter Castro of BayView Entertainment on behalf of the director.
