Disney Senior Vice President of Comms Heather Hust Rivera Exits (Exclusive)

Heather Heist Rivera, senior vice president of communications for Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution (DMED), is leaving the company after nearly two decades, diverse I learned exclusively.

Host Rivera said in a statement: diverse. “I wish the team nothing but the best, and I look forward to what the next chapter holds.”

Hust Rivera’s exit wasn’t entirely surprising, as she served as chief communications representative for Kareem Daniel, who stepped down as DMED chief in late November.

The moves come as returning CEO Bob Iger looks to restructure the company after Bob Chapek’s sudden ouster after three years. Entangled reorganized Disney by creating DMED, with the intention of focusing the company more on its streaming business. Iger explained that more changes would be coming to DMED in a note to staff announcing Daniels’ resignation, with many industry insiders predicting that the group would be scrapped altogether.

Daniel and Haste Rivera are the third high-profile executives to leave Disney following Chapek’s departure, the other being Chapek Lt. Arthur Buechner.

Hust Rivera has been named to her DMED role in March 2021. She oversaw global communications for all of DMED, which included Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, and Star+ as well as linear TV channels including ABC, Disney Channel, ESPN, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic. Its remit also included communications for ABC-owned stations, advertising sales, the Disney Music Group, content licensing and distribution, and theatrical film distribution.

She first joined Disney in various publicity roles for the Parks and Resorts division before moving on to lead all of Disney’s video, web and social media teams for corporate functions. She also worked in Disney’s Consumer Products, Games, and Publishing Division as Vice President of Communications and Public Relations. Before working at Disney, she worked for the United States Mission to the United Nations.
