‘Great British Bake Off’: Matt Lucas is leaving after three seasons

All things veneer come to an end.

Actor and comedian Matt Lucas is leaving as co-host of ‘The Great British Bake Off’ after three seasons on the show, citing scheduling conflicts with his new ‘Fantasy Football League’ series for Sky.

Lucas V said Statement posted on Twitter. “So, after three series and 51 episodes, I’m cheerfully offering a baguette to someone else.”

Lucas began co-hosting “Bake Off” (which airs on Netflix as “The Great British Baking Show” in the US) for the eleventh season, replacing co-host Sandi Toksvig. He worked alongside co-host Noel Fielding and judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Lyth.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to everyone at Love Productions and Channel 4 and to Noelipops, PaĆ¼l, Dame Prue, staff and of course the wonderful bakers for welcoming me to the tent,” Lucas wrote. “I hope whoever takes on everything is better, and I can’t wait to join the next series without already knowing who’s going to win!”

Lucas has been a controversial presence on the show for some fans, including making racist jokes during cultural topic weeks; In the eleventh season episode “Japanese Week”, he refers to katsu curry as “curried cat poo”. (Lucas apologized for using blackface, brownface, and yellowface in his comedy series “Little Britain” and “Come Fly With Me,” and both shows have been canceled by Netflix and the BBC from their services.)

Channel 4 representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
