Justin Hartley directs CBS’s “Never Game” drama series

CBS has ordered “The Never Game” drama series starring Justin Hartley to series for the 2023-2024 broadcast season.

The pickup marks the network’s first order for the series for the upcoming season. The project was originally put into development at CBS in 2021 and ordered to be piloted in July 2022. Besides Hartley, the cast also includes Robin Wiegert, Abe McEnany, Eric Grace, Fiona Renee, and Mary McDonnell.

The series is based on the book of the same name by Jeffrey Deaver. According to the official casting, Hartley will star as “sole survivor Colter Shaw, who roams the country as a ‘bounty seeker,’ using his expert tracking skills to help ordinary citizens and law enforcement solve all sorts of mysteries as he confronts a fractured family.”

“I am thrilled to give next season premiere to this exciting new series helmed by the incredibly talented Justin Hartley,” said CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach. “‘The Never Game’ is an excellent addition to our already successful family of dramas, and since our viewers love shows packed with action, intrigue, mystery and complex characters, they will love ‘The Never Game’ – and it delivers on all fronts.”

Ben Winters penned the pilot script and serves as executive producer with Ken Olin, who directed the pilot. Hartley will executive produce in addition to starring. 20th TV is the studio.

This marks Hartley’s first regular television role since the conclusion of “This Is Us,” the hit NBC drama in which Hartley starred throughout the sixth season of the show that ended earlier in 2022. He is now the second star of “This Is Us” to be awarded Leading role in new radio drama, ABC ordered spy thriller “The Company You Keep” starring Milio Ventimiglia.
