Owning an Apple Watch comes with a long list of amenities, which range from connectivity and productivity features to safety and fitness. But even one of the Apple Watch’s most iconic features — setting a timer — has a hidden tool you may not have seen before.
As someone who knows how to use an Apple Watch, I was surprised to find out about this hidden timer feature only recently. However, it is a feature that really saved me a lot of time and trouble. If you are someone who uses the timer app a lot, you will also appreciate it.
You can create a list of your favorite timers that appear on top of the timer app. This way, the timers you use on a regular basis are conveniently located in the app. Although you may see the Recents list by default, this list only contains a few timers and changes every time you set a new timer.
By favoring a timer, it always takes a place in the timer app. This is a game changer for me, since I have several different timers that I need daily or weekly. From knowing when to switch laundry and take dinner out of the oven to keeping track of deadlines and how much time is left in the crank plank, there are a few specific timers I find myself needing on standby.

While I’ve made managing my timers easier by adding a time complication to my Apple Watch face, my favorite timers option is Real Time Saver. Fortunately, anyone with an Apple Watch can try it out, whether you have the new Apple Watch Series 8 or Apple Watch SE (2022), or an older model.
You’ll also need to make sure your Apple Watch is running the latest software version, which is watchOS 9. Check out our guide on how to update your Apple Watch if your device is due for an upgrade. This will ensure that you get the best possible experience when trying this amazing feature.
How to set preferred timers on your Apple Watch
All you need to do is to prefer the timer Swipe left on the timer in “recents” and tap the orange star button. Yes, it is really that simple.
When you put a timer in your favourites, it will appear in a new list above your “recent items” called “favorites”. I added over 10 favorite timers, and had no issues. This means that you can set multiple favorite timers for the ones you use most frequently.
It’s especially useful if you need timers for uncommon ones—for example, my washing machine takes 36 minutes for a wash cycle. Creating a dedicated 36-minute timer once or twice a week was a drag. Now that I know about this Apple Watch feature, this timer remains relevant in my list of favorites in my timer app.
