Codes collide as Ariana DeBose performs Motown classic Gladys Knight in tribute video from new Kennedy Center

The 45th Annual Kennedy Center Honors is fast approaching, and music legend Gladys Knight is among the honorees. Known for her success across musical genres including soul, R&B, gospel and pop over the course of more than half a century of her career, she is receiving tribute from another icon with the Motown classic that Knight originally sang with The Pips. Check out Ariana DeBose (who She became famous herself in recent years) singing “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” in the video above!

“I Heard It Through The Grapevine” was the song that earned Gladys Knight her first Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in 1967, which would be followed by 21 more nominations over the years, so what better song would Ariana DeBose perform for Knight in Kennedy Center Honors? Knight would go on to win seven Grammy Awards. DeBose is propped up in her own version of The Pips and sparkling in her gold dress, and Knight looks impressed! This is definitely something Ariana DeBose is very proud of, after performing the song that earned Knight her first Grammy nomination opposite the legend herself.
