Tom Cruise jumps out of a plane in the new ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ trailer

Tom Cruise has once again jumped out of a plane – this time to give yet another thank you to fans of “Top Gun: Maverick” as he hurtles through the troposphere.

“Hi everyone, we’re here in amazing South Africa, filming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Parts 1 & 2,” Cruz shouts to the camera over the sound of the plane humming. “I didn’t want the year to end without saying thank you all for coming to the cinemas, and thank you for supporting Top Gun: Maverick.”

Just over 20 seconds later, the camera pans to reveal Christopher McQuarrie, who returns to the “Mission: Impossible” series to lead “Dead Reckoning.” McQuarrie also wrote “Top Gun: Maverick” and produced the film, along with Cruise and David Ellison.

McQuarrie also thanks fans of the “Top Gun” series before turning his focus back to Cruise: “Hey, listen, we really have to get started. We have to get this shot.”

Cruz smiles, nonchalantly pointing the finger gun at McQuarrie before promptly jumping off the plane — along with the photographer, presumably. With his full body stretched into a starfish position to prepare for air resistance, Cruz returns his attention to the camera and resumes his speech.

“As always, thank you for letting us entertain you. It really is the honor of a lifetime. I’m running out of altitude so I have to get back to work. We have to get this shot. Have a very safe and happy holiday. We’ll see you at the cinema.” Cruz winds up, before being swept away in the wind current towards the ocean.

Top Gun: Maverick remains the highest-grossing film of the year, bringing in $718 million at the domestic box office and $1.4 billion worldwide.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 will see the return of many veterans such as Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby and Henry Cherney. The official trailer sees Cruise in a number of action-packed scenes, such as a fistfight in a nightclub, a chase atop a moving train, and of course, plenty of falls.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 will be released in theaters by Paramount Pictures on July 14, 2023. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2 is currently scheduled to be released on June 28, 2024.
