Apple could cancel or delay the release of the upcoming iPhone SE 4

Despite it being an affordable option, Apple may end up canceling or delaying the release of the upcoming iPhone SE 4, which is due in 2024.

While some might argue that Apple’s smartphone lineup is bloated, others might say that Apple has an iPhone for any budget. For the most part, that’s right, while iPhones used to cost an arm and a leg, you can now get one for as low as $430 new. This model won’t be the most modern, but the iPhone SE 3 is affordable and packed with features.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, given historically weak sales from lower-end iPhones models, Apple may be looking to delay or cancel the release of the upcoming iPhone SE 3, which was due to arrive sometime in 2024. It is also reported that there is also interest in rising prices. The potential production and selling cost of the upcoming model, since it will feature a design change that uses a full-screen design.

While the above points are the main reasons, Apple could also look to reduce its investment in new projects in order to combat the uncertain economic conditions for the coming year. In the same vein, we reported yesterday that Apple would reduce its PC lineup, dropping its plans to create a premium “Extreme” model for the upcoming Mac Pro.

Although Kuo has a relatively proven track record, we’re still quite a ways away from 2024, so there’s always a chance to turn things around. But one thing to note is that we’ve actually seen this once before. Apple took a gamble and produced a smaller iPhone with the iPhone Mini 12 and iPhone Mini 13. But due to poor sales, the company discontinued the series after only two years.

While smaller phones are nice and easy to use, the market shows that there is not much demand for such products. Even at a lower cost, there might not be any place in this world for another iPhone SE.
