Alienware’s new AW2524H 500Hz gaming monitor wants to be the best gaming monitor for esports. According to Dell, this monitor offers the “world’s fastest refresh rate.” This claim may not be entirely accurate given the presence of the Asus ROG Swift 500Hz announced in 2022. But even if the upcoming Alienware monitor isn’t the only 500Hz gaming monitor out there, the refresh rate is still amazingly fast.
I briefly got to see the Alienware AW2524H during a Dell event in New York City. While I couldn’t fully dive into what the monitor had to offer, I was intrigued by its potential as an esports-focused monitor. If it lives up to its promises, the Alienware A2524H may find itself on our list of best gaming monitors.

Alienware 500Hz Gaming Monitor (AW2524H): Price and availability
The AW2524H is expected to be released sometime in the first quarter of 2023. Pricing will be announced closer to the shipping date.
This is pure speculation on my part, but I can see this monitor hovering in the $1,000 range, maybe a little less.
The Sony Inzone M9 is $899 and the Alienware AW3423DWF is $1,099. These screens have features like 4K and QD-LED, which the AW2524H lacks. However, the native 480Hz resolution can raise the price and keep it in the range of those screens mentioned above. But like I said, this is just a guess.
Alienware 500Hz Gaming Monitor (AW2524H): Design
At 15.37/19.71 (compacted/extended) x 21.86 x 9.60 inches and weighing 14.09 pounds with the stand, the AW2524H is a fairly modest gaming monitor. Its all-black design also adds to its nondescript look. If it weren’t for the glowing Alienware logo and the number “25” on the back, you’d be hard-pressed to believe this was a gaming monitor.
The Legend 2.0’s esports-inspired design features a hexagonal base with a small footprint. The fully adjustable stand also helps you get the best possible viewing angle. I’m not a fan of monitors with giant bases, so I appreciated the AW2524H’s small base. And I am sure that professional esports athletes will also love it because they will be able to put their keyboards close to the screen if they need to.
The ports are located on the back and bottom of the screen. You’ll find two HDMI 2.1 ports, a DisplayPort, four USB-A ports (two upstream, two downstream), a USB-B port, a headphone jack, and an output port. There is also an OSD (On Screen Display) joystick located in the bottom center.
The AW2524H features the minimalist look of an Alienware monitor. However, this gaming monitor is all about offering superior refresh rates and fast response time. Because of this, its design helps keep all your focus on the screen.
The monitor also comes with a built-in headphone hanger, which is a nice bonus.
Alienware 500Hz Gaming Monitor (AW2524H): The screen
The Alienware AW2524H features a 24.5-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) display with a native refresh rate of 480Hz and up to 500Hz with compatible titles. Dell says the 16:9 screen has a contrast ratio of 1000:1, a brightness of 400 cd/m2 (equivalent to 400 nits) and can cover 99% of the sRGB color gamut.
I’ve only seen a few pre-recorded game footage during my hands-on time, but the screen looked fairly bright and colorful. I wasn’t surprised, but I wasn’t disappointed either. But I can’t list this as a negative because this monitor prioritizes performance over visuals – which makes sense for an esports-focused gaming rig.
Alienware 500Hz Gaming Monitor (AW2524H): Performance
Dell claims that the AW2524H offers the “world’s fastest refresh rate”. Although the marketing focuses on the 500Hz refresh rate, this can only be achieved with 500Hz compatible games. Other than that, the AW2524H has a native refresh rate of 480Hz, which is still quite high.
The company also says that the fast IPS panel enables a 0.5ms response time which eliminates blackouts and ghosting and enables consistent colors. The Nvidia Reflex Latency Analyzer, which helps in analyzing and reducing input latency, should help the latency of an individual.
This monitor is aimed at the competitive gamer who wants to get the most out of their gaming monitor. However, in order to take full advantage of the 500Hz screen, one would need a powerful gaming rig. With Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 40-series GPUs now available, we could see more games that can take full advantage of this monitor’s insane refresh rate.
Alienware 500Hz Gaming Monitor (AW2524H): Outlook
With esports still popular, it makes sense for companies like Dell to release hardware that caters to this audience. Based on what I’ve seen, the Alienware AW2524H could potentially be a hit among esports professionals. And if it’s priced right, the screen could also be attractive to casual gamers.
