Google begins rolling out Fall Detection to some Pixel Watch users

The feature appears to be rolling out via a server-side update

Although Google talked about Fall Detection on the Pixel Watch during its Made by Google launch event last year, the feature wasn’t available on the smartwatch at launch. Google said it will come to users “this winter,” and now it looks like it will roll out to some users.

a 9to5Google A reader recently discovered the feature after resetting the Pixel Watch. The smartwatch reportedly prompted the user to set up Fall Detection, even though the watch was still on a firmware update that rolled out last month (build RWD9.220429.070). This leads us to believe that Google could roll it out to some users via a server-side update, and it might make it to the Pixel Watch soon.

Since Google has not made an official announcement yet, we cannot be sure if the rollout is accidental. We’ve reached out to the company for comment, and will update this post as soon as we have more information.

Once you bring up fall detection support on your Pixel Watch, you’ll see a corresponding setting inside Safety and emergency department in the clock settings. You’ll also find the Fall Detection key in the Pixel Watch app on your phone, along with an introductory notification highlighting its functionality.

For the unaware, the Fall Detection feature on the Pixel Watch will detect a severe fall and automatically call your emergency contact if the wearer remains motionless after a fall. Unfortunately, the feature will not be available in all regions. Introductory notification detects fall detection and international emergency calls Not available in all regions. International emergency calling features require Google Pixel Watch with 4G LTE. Fall detection, Emergency SOS, and international emergency calls depend on network connectivity and other factors and may not be reliable for emergency communications or available in general regions or languages. .
