LineageOS 20 adds the Sony Xperia XZ3 and XZ2 family to the list

LineageOS developers have been working hard to expand LineageOS 20 builds based on Android 13 to more devices. After releasing the first batch of official over 50 device designs last week, the team now has a few more phones on the list, including the Sony Xperia XZ2, Xperia XZ2 Compact, Xperia XZ2 Premium, and Xperia XZ3.

The Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ3 family were released in the same year, with Android 8.0 Oreo and Android 9.0 Pie respectively. Although Sony has upgraded Android 10 OS to these devices, no more official OS updates have been provided. Despite some hacks needed to port the latest Android version, Senior XDA Member Detronic 90 It managed to bring Android 13 to both of these devices.

If you own any of the devices mentioned above and would like to try out LineageOS 20, you can download the latest Nightly build from the wiki links given below:

At the time of publishing the article, the ROM ZIP files are not ready for download. However, the patch that adds hardware to the build server has been integrated, so releases should be live soon.

It goes without saying that you must have an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery installed on your device in order to install this ROM. As with most custom ROMs, you will also need to install the Google Apps package (GApps) since they are not bundled with the ROM. If you’re not sure, check out our guide on how to choose and install the right GApps package for your device.

Before you go ahead and flash LineageOS 20 to your phone, be sure to read the installation instructions and other associated documentation thoroughly, including prerequisites and special boot modes. Also, make sure to backup your data before starting the process, as you have to wipe the entire target device during the installation.
