Sky History Acquires Noor Inayat Khan’s Liberté

British television channel Sky History has acquired a short film, Liberté, about a Muslim spy who worked as a British secret agent during World War II.

Liberté tells the true story of Noor Inayat Khan, the daughter of an American Sufi preacher and preacher, who became a spy in France and a radio operator for the British during the war, and was eventually captured by the Nazi regime and executed. In the Dachau concentration camp.

The drama was written and co-produced by Sky News presenter, presenter and journalist, Sam Nas, who also plays Khan. The film is based on testimony given by Khan’s German captors after the war. It is believed that “Liberté” was the last word Khan uttered before her death.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of Khan’s mission.

“Here was a key figure in the war effort who looked like me, yet I knew nothing of her upbringing,” Nas said in a statement. “I felt it was my duty to put Nour’s bravery front and center.”

Nas has worked for broadcasters including BBC, Sky, ITN and NBC Euronews. Her production company, Laconic Raven, is currently developing the mini-drama series ‘SOE’ – about the special operations organization created during the war, of which Khan was a part – and the comedy-drama ‘Off Air’. She can be seen regularly anchoring Sky News.

The song “Liberté” features being composed in memory of Khan by her late brother, Hedayat Inayat Khan, and has been described by her nephews as “a deeply moving tribute” that “provides a glimpse of Noor’s stunning and heart-wrenching heroism.”

The film also stars Oliver Bott (“The Time of Your Life”) as Nazi intelligence chief Hans-Josef Kiefer, and is directed and co-produced by Christopher Hanvey (“Justice”).

Liberté premieres on Sky History on February 21.
