The Harris County Road Authority began a crackdown on unpaid toll offenders on Wednesday

Harris County, Texas (KTRK) – Toll road users Beware if you have an unpaid toll because Harris County deputies will be out in force looking for you as the crackdown on unpaid tolls begins Wednesday morning.

If you pass through the yards on the southwest or southeast side, expect to see drivers pulling over. If you pay the transit fee, you don’t have to worry.

Deputies are focusing their efforts on the offenders, drivers who currently owe more than $500 in unpaid fees.

Now, this may seem like a lot of fees, but the collection agency adds penalties and fees, so it won’t take long to accumulate $500 if you leave those fees unpaid.

If you don’t think there is a way for deputies to spot your car among all the other drivers, think again. The toll road has a speed alert system that tells deputies exactly where and when the offender comes through the toll booth.

“You’ll send a picture of the vehicle, as well as how long they’ve been as a restricted vehicle and how much money they owe and fines they owe as well. So, the officer will know that’s the vehicle I have to park, that’s the back of the vehicle, that’s the license plate, the description, that’s how much What they owe, Sgt. Alex Gonzalez said.

Drivers can get an EZ tag for free, and starting Labor Day, prices on tolls will be slashed by 15%.
