The start of the mission

Activating the mission requires heading to the Umugi Cove settlement. This is located on the southwest coast of Omoji Prefecture. Talk to the musician outside the dojo and start the story. Speaking of Kojiro and five other duelists, you must travel and defeat all of them to complete the task. The map will be updated with five locations once the conversation is over.

Heading to the first location will lead you to the end of Drowned Man’s Beach. Here, you will fight the first Straw Hat and start the battle with Kojiro’s Six Blades. The first straw hat was named Yasumasa. Yasumasa’s attacks aren’t very sophisticated, but you’d better keep an eye on him when he’s getting ready to attack.

He has quite a few attacks, along with a move where he hits you and makes you lose balance. Be careful, because when he holds his sword low and bends down, he is about to attack you. Close up, Yasumasa raises his sword up and down slashing towards you. There is also a combo of his own, twice in a row he cuts a semicircle in front of him.

Combos are best for defeating Yamomasa, as that usually stops him from hitting right away. The best way to defeat him is to find and prepare for the queues that lead to different moves.

A duel between spider lilies

Hirotsune fighting in a field of spider lilies in Ghost of Tsushima

This battle is dubbed the Flower of Death, and the next battle takes place in a field of spider lilies. Hirotsune, the second swordsman, is eager to fight and is more equipped than before. Hirotsune’s attacks consist mostly of forward slashes. Besides this, he is better equipped for dribbling. His attacks are quick and often leave less than a second warning.

Dribbling is the best tactic to beat Hirotsune. Initiating attacks and only attacking when he’s finished lunging at you is a good way to get hits. While combos may do a lot of damage, you will most likely end up losing health.

Set between waterfalls, this fight against the third Straw Hat will be a challenge. Kiyochika’s moveset consists mostly of smashing towards you once weak. Dashes pointing with his sword, you’d better stay careful. He will also try to block your attacks with his sword.

The best way to defeat Kiyochika is to be ready to strike back and release. His attacks can be countered because there is more time to react. Landing combos can also be important because, unlike Hirotsune, he doesn’t dodge much.

Set on rocky shores, the third swordsman in this adventure poses a huge threat. Despite his polite demeanor, he wouldn’t back down. Tomotsugu is good at performing combos on you. Letting your guard down is a bad move, as one wrong move, and it will greatly reduce your health. His move-set consists mostly of combos. One, in particular, consists of a slash, followed by a kick to hit you backwards. Get this, and it will charge you to keep performing attacks.

This powerful Straw Hat is easily defeated with a combination of dodging and landing various sword combos. Because of the way Tomotsugu will charge, flip back, and try to do combos of his own, it’s best to avoid getting knocked back and take chances to land combos to do a lot of damage.

Among the trees, this battle will lose your previous expectations. The fourth swordsman won’t let you put your guard down too far before he hits you. This fight is not only beautiful but also very challenging. Kanetomo likes to strike more when you’re trying to block or protect yourself. When dribbling, be sure to gain that extra distance back. Kanetomo will charge you when you try to back off, so distance is essential.

Straw Hats can quickly become easy to defeat by skillfully dodging and knowing when to attack. Attacks are best done through combos, as with most duelists to date. While Kanetomo likes to try to stop you from dodging or getting too many moves, catching him off guard with a well-planned combo will lower his health significantly.

By combining the skills collected during the long journey, Kojiro is the strongest. Skilled in dribbling, quick in attack, and spares no effort. Kojiro’s attacks consist of quick slashes, quick jabs, and amazing combos. Keep your head in the game at all times, as it won’t let you forget who you’re up against.
