Marco Antonio Juarez, 21, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of a man who put gas in a car on I-10 Katy

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – A Houston man, who was old enough to drink alcohol less than two weeks ago, has been charged with driving while intoxicated and hitting a man who was putting gas in his car on Katy Freeway.

Marco Antonio Juarez, 21, is charged with poisoning and manslaughter.

According to Houston police, a black Chrysler 300 and another vehicle were pulled over on the right shoulder at the 9900 block of I-10 Katy Highway, near Memorial City Mall, around 3:40 a.m. on Saturday, February 18.

The Chrysler driver was standing outside his car and filling it with gas. Police said that was when a Toyota Tundra pickup truck traveling west on the highway hit the man.

Police said the accident pushed the man forward into the back of the second car parked in front of the Chrysler.

Paramedics with the Houston Fire Department declared the man dead at the scene. The police did not release his identity.

Police said the driver of the second car that stopped on the highway was unharmed.

Investigators determined that the driver of the Tundra, who was later identified as Juarez, had been disabled. He was arrested at the scene and charged.

According to court documents, Juarez posted a $50,000 bond. He was due to appear in court on Monday.
