The killer of rapper Nipsey Hussle has been sentenced to 60 years to life in prison

A judge announced Wednesday that the man convicted of shooting rapper Nipsey Hussle will be sentenced to 60 years in prison. His sentence came as expected after several months of delayed hearings as defense attorney Aaron Jansen pressed for a reduced conviction and petitioned for a new trial. Clay Jack, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge, denied both bids late last year.

Eric R Holder Jr., 33 years old He was found guilty He was convicted of first-degree murder in July for shooting and killing Hussle, a native of Ermias Asghedom, outside a Marathon clothing store in South Los Angeles in March 2019. Hussle was 33 at the time of his death. The murder conviction alone carries a 25-year sentence to life imprisonment.

Two bystanders were also wounded by gunfire during the shooting. Holder was convicted of two counts of attempted first degree murder – a far less serious charge than first degree murder. In December, the defense argued that Holder’s conviction for Hassell’s murder should be reduced to first degree murder to “consist with the other two verdicts”.

Prosecutors argued during the murder trial that the attack was Premeditation, saying that it was the culmination of an earlier feud between Holder and Hussle. Deputy Attorney General John McKinney said there was “no doubt” that Holder planned to kill Hussle, telling the court he shot the rapper at least 10 times and kicked him in the head before fleeing the scene, according to the Associated Press. Holder and Hassell had known each other for years before the fatal shooting, as both aspiring rappers grew up in South Los Angeles.

McKinney said the controversy stemmed from Hassell hearing that Holder was a snitch and wanted to “get it clear,” the AP reported. McKinney said the pair, along with two of Hussle’s friends, had a “great conversation” with Holder before the attack, noting that Hussle had no security with him when he visited his store.

The Associated Press reported that Holder’s attorney, Aaron Jansen, argued the killing was unplanned and cited “extreme emotion” as the reason for the attack. Janssen said Holder accidentally shot bystanders.

After Holder’s conviction in July, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon paid tribute to Hussle, the Grammy-nominated artist, business owner and community advocate whose death rocked Los Angeles and sparked an outpouring of tributes from fans, celebrities and political leaders.
