T-Mobile Scar Shield handled an impressive 41.5 billion scam calls in 2022

T-Mobile has shared details about its crackdown on robocalls and how it protects its customers.

While T-Mobile isn’t doing a great job of protecting its customers when it comes to its data, the wireless carrier appears to be winning the battle against scam calls, sharing that it blocked an impressive 41.5 billion scam calls in 2022. The company shared the news in its second annual report on Fraud and Robocalls, providing key details regarding the fraud, spam, and robocall activity the carrier encountered last year.

While there are a lot of juicy details in the report, perhaps the most surprising part is that robocalls are increasing year on year. T-Mobile shares that robocall attempts are up 75 percent over the previous year, with calls reaching an all-time high in January 2022. Of course, T-Mobile’s SCAM Shield managed to protect customers from these types of calls, but The wireless carrier has also been aided by developments in other areas of its business and services.

While there are a lot of robocall scams going on every day, T-Mobile reported that car warranty scams were fairly heavy in the early part of 2022, but thankfully the FCC stepped in and ended the scam. Pretty much right then and there. Unfortunately, robocalls never stop, and while warranty scams are gone, “health and insurance” scams are starting to become more common. In addition to an increase in these types of calls, the holidays are also a particularly bad period.

While it’s impossible to block all calls, T-Mobile states that its SCAM Shield service does somewhat to reduce these types of calls that reach its customers. Of course, there are other apps that perform this type of service, but it’s nice to have a carrier that provides this service at no additional cost when using a supported wireless plan. If you’re a T-Mobile or Metro customer, you can always download the app and give it a try.
