Whether you have a file last iPhoneiPad, or AirTag, you can use Apple’s Find My network to locate the device. Find My Business connects all iDevices that have subscribed to the service, allowing even disconnected products to exchange data with an Apple server by uploading to a nearby device over the Internet. With this service, you can locate, scan, ping, and do so much more with a device, including AirTags and other third-party tracking devices. While it sounds simple, there is a lot you can use Find My for.
How to add items or share a location on Find My
You may have noticed when you open the Find My app that on each tab (we’ll get to that later), there’s a plus (+) button towards the middle right. This button works similarly across all tabs. When you tap it, you get four options, letting you share your location with a friend, add a compatible MagSafe accessory like Apple’s MagSafe Wallet, pair an AirTag, or pair a third-party Find My tracker. You can access this menu from any tab within the app.
The processes for sharing your location or adding an item to the app are very simple. For the former, just click Share my site And choose the required contact from the list, followed by the duration of access to the direct site allowed. The first tab you’ll see in the Find My app is People. Here you can see the live location of anyone who has granted you access. Those with newer iPhones can share their exact location in real time, allowing users to see almost every step they take in real time.
When you click on a friend’s name, you get a panel showing several buttons. You can view their contact information, go to their location through the Maps app, add notifications when they arrive at or leave a specific location, put them in your favorites, give their current location a name, such as Home, share your location with them, or stop receiving their location .
This feature is ideal for your close friends and family as it requires a fair amount of trust. It is expected that many people will refrain from using it altogether as it can be overly intrusive. However, it can come in handy when the person you care about is in a very dangerous place, and you want to keep an eye on them.

The second tab you’ll see is Devices, which is arguably the most important section of the app. Here, you can see a list of your main Apple devices, along with those of users in the same iCloud family. These include iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, AirPods, and more.
When you click on a device, a panel appears that allows you to see the last seen location and the approximate battery level. You can also mark a device as lost, then ping it audibly, set left notifications, and add a message if someone finds it. If you’re in trouble, you can also remotely erase a device and remove it from your account as a last resort.

The third tab is Items, which is where the approved AirTags and Find My tags live. When you click on an item, you get a panel that might be familiar if you’ve used the Devices tab we disabled earlier. So you can ping an item, go to it, mark it as lost, rename it, set lagging notifications, enable found notifications, or remove it from your account.
And most interestingly, you may notice a button called Select the existing item At the bottom. If you find someone else’s AirTag or Find My tracker, you can use this button to scan it. If the owner has marked it as missing, you will be able to view their contact information and reach out to them to arrange a meeting. It’s also a great way to scan your surroundings if you think someone is following you with the Find My enabled tracker. While iOS will automatically erase these items in the background every once in a while, using this button can contribute even more to your peace of mind.

Finally, there is the Me tab, which is there for personal matters. There you can give your current location a custom label, such as Home or Work. You can also offer your chosen iDevice to transmit your live location to your selected friends. Additionally, you can completely disable friend requests and customize related notification settings. Tapping either of the two customization notifications buttons redirects you to the Notifications section of the Settings app, where you get the typical app notification options and privileges, such as revoking permission, choosing temporary or permanent banners, whether to show on the lock screen, and so on.
At the bottom is a link that launches the Find My web app in your browser, allowing your friend to log into their account to locate their lost iDevice from your iPhone.
