Picking up a new HP Dragonfly Pro printer? Here’s what you need to know about protecting your computer.
HP announced its new Dragonfly Pro and Dragonfly Pro Chromebook at CES 2023. The Windows versions are the first in Dragonfly’s line of high-end business laptops that use AMD’s Ryzen processors. In this case, it’s the latest AMD Ryzen 7000 mobile chipset with Zen 3+ architecture. The Pro Chromebook uses 12th Gen Intel Core processors, which puts it in line with many of the best Chromebooks available today.
The Dragonfly Pro and Pro Chromebook have 14-inch screens and excellent audio and camera settings, which is enough to power HP’s best laptops. We still don’t have an exact release date for the Dragonfly Pro or Pro Chromebook, but HP has said a spring 2023 release is expected. As with most HP business laptops, it’s expected to come with a number of warranty options. Let’s take a look at what kind of coverage you can expect when the Dragonfly Pro and Dragonfly Pro Chromebook launch.
Does the HP Dragonfly Pro have a good warranty?
The HP Dragonfly Pro and Dragonfly Pro Chromebook haven’t been released yet, but by looking at other Dragonfly laptops we can get an idea of what to expect when it comes to warranty and other coverage. The HP Dragonfly G4 was also announced at CES 2023 with a similar spring 2023 release date, and we covered the Dragonfly G4 warranty in a separate article.
HP appears to have dropped its standard one-year limited warranty for its recent Dragonfly laptops, and it’s expected to continue on the new Dragonfly Pro models. The word “limited” is always a little annoying when it comes to the warranty, and indeed it is HP has a standard set of warranty terms and conditions. Major hardware defects—such as a failed SSD, defective touchpad, or dead battery—are covered, and some major screen defects are also included. They are basic things that you would expect from any computer manufacturer.

Add more coverage to your HP Dragonfly Pro
All HP Dragonfly Pro and Dragonfly Pro Chromebook models are expected to come with HP’s standard one-year warranty, but what about longer coverage? HP is happy to comply and has a number of extended warranty options called “Care Packs” that you can choose from. HP Care Packs can be added to any computer, whether it’s a high-end laptop or a low-cost desktop computer, but there are some limitations. You can only add a Care Pack to a consumer laptop computer before you are within 90 days of the expiration of the standard warranty. On the business and business side, you must add a care package within 90 days of the date you purchased your laptop.
If you’re a regular customer who purchases a consumer-side Dragonfly Pro from the HP Store, adding the Care Pack from scratch makes more sense. HP begins its Care Pack coverage when the laptop’s standard warranty begins (usually on the date of purchase). For example, if you buy a new HP laptop on March 1 and purchase the Care Pack on July 1, you technically only have eight months left on the Care Pack.
Most HP laptops have a Care Pack section built right into the product listing page, but you can also find a Dedicated Care Pack Store on the HP website. Business laptop care packages generally range from two to five years of coverage, and you can pick and choose coverage such as accidental damage, repair, on-site travel, defective storage, 24/7 tech support, and more. HP care packages generally start around $80, but there are frequent (and somewhat significant) sales that bring the price down to a more reasonable level. If possible, stay within the warranty grace period to get the best possible price for your laptop care package.
