The Girl Scouts say not to buy Raspberry Rally cookies from eBay after the new option sells out within hours

the Girl Scout Rally Raspberry Cake, a berry-flavored version of the house’s beloved Thin Mint, was always meant to be a limited edition. Just this is not limited.

The new Girl Scout cookie sold out in a matter of hours. Now, people who want to try it out can search eBay.

However, the Girl Scouts would rather you not do that.

In an email to a New York chapter of the Girl Scouts, local leaders said that “the Raspberry Rally cake sold out in less than a day.” According to the letter, seen by CNN, the cookie proved “more popular than expected.”

Quickly, it ended up on the resale market. Packages of Raspberry Rally cookies are now listed on eBay, some for around $30 — well above Girl Scouts’ price of about $5 or $6 per box.

For more than 100 years, the Girl Scouts have sold cookies as a way to help members build their trading skills and to raise money for the group. But profits from the resale market aren’t going to the Girl Scouts, who said they’re “disappointed” that the products are now available through third-party sellers.

“When cookies are purchased through a third-party vendor, the Girl Scout troop is denied the proceeds that fund important programs throughout the year,” the Girl Scouts told CNN in a statement. Plus, unauthorized sales can erode the Girl Scout’s good cookie name.

“Girl Scouts of the USA, your local Girl Scout Council, and our licensed cookie bakers cannot guarantee the freshness or integrity of cookies purchased through unauthorized sites.” Girl Scouts said to buy cookies directly from Girl Scouts, customers must use the Cooke Finder on the Girl Scout website.

Scouts may be disappointed, but eBay has no plans to pull listings.

“We strongly support the entrepreneurial spirit of the hard-working local Girl Scout troop and encourage cookie students to support the local Girl Scouts,” eBay said in a statement to CNN. However, selling Girl Scout cookies does not violate eBay’s policies.

The Girl Scouts first introduced the coveted Raspberry Rally during the summer, months before cookie season from January to April. At the time, the group explained that the Rally would only be available for online purchase for direct shipment to customers — a first for the organization. The group said that the online-only sales strategy is a new way to teach entrepreneurship.
