How to customize the lock screen on your Samsung device

Create your own unique lock screen with these helpful tips.


One UI is one of the main reasons why Samsung Galaxy devices are among the best phones on the market. The Android skin provides a fast and smooth experience and packs a wealth of additional features that give it an edge over other OEM Android skins. The best part is that Samsung keeps adding more useful features to the mix with each successive update. For example, One UI 5 based on Android 13 introduced stackable widget support, new multitasking gestures, lock screen customizations, and much more.


If you’ve just purchased a brand new Galaxy S23 Ultra or other Samsung device and want to customize its lock screen, we’re here to help. Read on to learn how to customize the lock screen on your Samsung device and make the most of the new features.


Customize your Samsung device lock screen

Samsung devices running One UI 5 or later have several new lock screen customization features. You can use these features to customize everything from the wallpaper to the widgets displayed on the lock screen. To do so, head to the Lock screen option in the Settings app and follow the instructions below to customize every aspect of the lock screen.

Change the lock screen wallpaper

  1. Select the lock screen panel using the edit button in the lock screen settings to open a live preview of your lock screen.
  2. Tap the wallpaper button in the top left corner to change the lock screen wallpaper.
  3. Choose a wallpaper from one of the default categories on the next page, or select an image from your gallery.
  4. Tap the Done button in the upper-right corner to apply your new lock screen wallpaper.

Customizable lock screen clock widget

  1. Select the lock screen panel using the edit button in the lock screen settings to open a live preview of your lock screen.
  2. Tap on the clock widget to open the customization options.
  3. Select one of the five analog and digital clock styles from the popup.
  4. If you choose a digital clock, you can change its font by clicking on the six options available at the top of the popup.
  5. Select the clock color from the bottom bar or let One UI automatically adjust the color based on your wallpaper by choosing the first option.
  6. Resize the clock widget by dragging one of the four corners.
  7. Once you’re satisfied with the result, select the Done button in the top-right corner.

Personalize your lock screen notifications

  1. Select the lock screen panel using the edit button in the lock screen settings to open a live preview of your lock screen.
  2. Select Lock screen notifications to open the customization options.
  3. Choose one of the three notification styles from the following pop-up menu: None, Icon Only, or Details. The following customizations are only available if you choose the Details option.
  4. Adjust notification transparency using the slider in the popup.
  5. Enable the auto reverse text color option if you want One UI to automatically adjust the color of the notification text based on the wallpaper for better visibility.
  6. Select the Done button in the upper-right corner to apply your customizations to the lock screen.

Change lock screen shortcuts

  1. Select the lock screen panel using the edit button in the lock screen settings to open a live preview of your lock screen.
  2. Select the shortcut you want to change by clicking on the icons in the lower left or lower right corners.
  3. Choose a new shortcut from the following popup.
  4. Click the Done button to apply the changes.

Add your contact information to the lock screen

  1. Select the lock screen panel using the edit button in the lock screen settings to open a live preview of your lock screen.
  2. Tap the Contact info option on the lock screen preview.
  3. Enter the contact information you wish to display on the lock screen in the next popup and select Done.
  4. Select Done in the lock screen preview to apply the changes.

Add, remove and rearrange lock screen widgets

  1. Select the Widgets panel with edit button in the lock screen settings to open the widgets selection screen.
  2. Enable the widgets you want to access on the lock screen by tapping the toggle next to each option.
  3. Change the order in which widgets appear on your lock screen by selecting the rearrange button in the upper-right corner.
  4. Set the widget layout on the next screen.
  5. Once done, lock your phone and tap on the lock screen clock widget to see your chosen widgets.

Use Good Lock’s LockStar module for additional lock screen customizations

If you are not satisfied with One UI’s default lock screen customization options, you can make additional changes using Good Lock’s LockStar module. let’s do it, Download the Good Lock app from the Galaxy Store on your Samsung device. Select and install the LockStar module from within the Good Lock app and follow these steps to customize your lock screen:

  1. Select the Lock Star module in the Good Lock app to open the customization options.
  2. Enable Personalize lock screen on the next screen by tapping the toggle on the top left.
  3. Once enabled, tap on the lock screen to open a live preview with customization features.
  4. Select the item you want to customize and drag it anywhere on the screen to change its location.
  5. Remove unwanted items by clicking the X button in the upper-right corner of the selection. If you removed an item by mistake, click the empty region in its previous position to open a pop-up menu with the items you can add to the region.
  6. Change the appearance of the lock icon at the top of the screen, the clock widget, shortcuts, or toasts by selecting the item and then clicking the icon with four squares in the lower left corner of the selection.
  7. Once done, select the Save button in the upper-right corner of the lock screen preview to apply the changes.

If you’re in an area where Samsung still doesn’t offer Good Lock, you can use a third-party alternative like NiceLock. It gives you access to all Good Lock modules in unsupported areas.
