The Apple HomePod with a 7-inch screen could debut in 2024

It looks like Apple’s HomePod could get a huge upgrade in 2024.

Apple’s HomePod got a new release in January, offering a faster processor, better Wi-Fi connectivity, powerful audio, Thread support, and more. While the soundbar is rated reasonably well, perhaps one of the things that could be improved is the physical touch controls. Although there are a few options on the top of the speaker, most of them are just for simple music playback controls. For most people, that’s probably enough, but it looks like Apple could get even more ambitious with its next release, as it could add a 7-inch display to its next HomePod.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he shared through his Medium page that Apple will release a redesigned HomePod in the first half of 2024. What can make this upcoming HomePod special is that it will, for the first time in the history of the product line, arrive with a display. Kuo mentions that this screen will come in a size of 7 inches and will be provided by Tianma. Moreover, if all goes well with this project, the company could be lined up to start producing panels for future iPads, which will significantly increase its revenue streams in the future.

Now as far as this screen will be able to is anyone’s guess, but Kuo shares that adding a screen to its HomePod line could help with “tighter integration with other Apple hardware products.” This is significant, as it has been reported that Apple will look to better position its products in the smart home space in the coming years. The company was rumored to be building a smart display, offering a design that would allow users to take it from room to room, and mount it magnetically to surfaces. As for now, we just have to wait and see.
