Bing Chat now uses an advanced version of DALL-E to allow users to create pictures with words

Microsoft has announced two big upgrades for Bing. Bing Image Creator is now available in the AI-powered Bing chat experience, and is powered by a version of the DALL ∙ E model to help you create images in your own words. Also available in standard Bing search are visual stories and AI knowledge cards.

Available to anyone who already has access to the Bing preview experience, the new Bing Image Creator is quite the experience. To get started, you can enter Bing chat creative mode and type in what you want to see images to use with the “draw a picture” or “create a picture” prompt, and Bing chat will instantly create images for you. Technically, you don’t even need to go to a webpage to do this, since the feature is built right into Microsoft Edge’s sidebar with a simple click on the Bing Image Creator icon. Microsoft seemed very proud of this and stated that it is the first and only browser to have this feature.

If you were wondering, yes Microsoft uses what it calls an “advanced version” of the DALL ∙ E form to run these results. Yusef Mahdi of Microsoft said he believed there should now be “no limits to what you search and create”. This isn’t too surprising, given Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI in artificial intelligence.

As for Bing’s new AI-powered visual stories and knowledge cards, it should now make the search engine more engaging. Dubbed Knowledge Cards 2.0 by Microsoft, you’ll see images, short videos, graphs, charts, timelines, and collections of images when searching for specific topics like cities or animals, so you can get important facts and information at a glance. “Our goal is to deliver more immersive experiences in Bing and Edge that make finding answers and exploring the web more interesting, useful, and fun,” said Mehdi.

If you’re concerned about the privacy side of things, there are safeguards in place so that Bing Image Creator cannot be misused. There are controls that limit the creation of malicious or unsafe images, claims for such creations will be blocked, and Bing Chat will give the user a clear warning. Each image generated is also clearly labeled with a Bing icon in the left corner to show that it was created with this generator.
