Gollum announces the May release date in a new trailer

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will come to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S. PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (Steam / Epic) on May 25 this year, publishers Daedalic Entertainment and Nacon announce.

The Nintendo Switch version will be released later this year, and the developer has also provided a comprehensive look at the game with New story trailer And play show.

The gameplay begins with a short tutorial segment deep in the Mist Mountains, especially in Gollum’s Cave, and showcases the stealth gameplay that will be at the forefront of the experience. Players will have the ability to throw rocks to distract and sneak past enemies, as well as traverse worlds in a variety of ways through climbing and parkour moves, leaving it up to the player to decide how to move through each location.

The developer says that Gollum’s small stature helps to see the world of Middle-earth from a unique perspective not explored in other Tolkien-inspired games. The gameplay also moves to Barad-dr (Dark Lord Sauron’s castle), where Gollum will not only be able to roam freely, but also have conversations with characters and make some important decisions based on who is the dominant character in his mind at the time: type Gollum or Sméagol cunning.

Gollum will also have something called Gollum Sense that allows him to figure out his path and the best move to make next, and the Elvenking halls have been shown as a place players can visit in the game. The developer also confirmed that Gollum will be able to take players to places not seen in Tolkien’s poetry, but confirmed that Gollum has visited them, so the game will not conflict with the main books in any way.

An important point the developer also mentioned was why the team decided to make a game about Gollum in the first place. His answer is that the world of The Lord of the Rings has always revolved around ordinary people like Frodo and Bilbo (not powerful wizards or knights) traversing lands and facing their own challenges, so it made sense to use Gollum’s unique perspective to illuminate the world without straying from what made the other heroes never forget.
