Philly Theater Week hops on stage

Philadelphia – Philly Theater Week returned to theaters across the city in late March.

It’s an 11-day celebration of all things theater, with dozens of performances scheduled around our viewing area from over 40 theater companies.

Gina Kurzi is one such actor and co-writer of the celebration.

She is an actress, writer, producer, and candle maker. One woman play, Johnny Depp! (a retrospective on late capitalism) can be seen at Fergie’s Pub for nine shows starting March 30th during the festivities.

“I see in the audience a community willing to take risks and see new things,” she explains. “It’s not just about going to the same stage they’ve always been to.” “I’ve seen people walk into the Fergie or any theater with a show and say I know there’s a play here, I don’t know what it’s about but I’m willing to see something weird. And I think that’s a really beautiful thing about creating a play in Philadelphia.”

She says great things can happen when you step out of your comfort zone.

She was afraid of two things: being on stage alone and improvising the audience. And performing this play of her own, she overcame those fears and loves every time she gets on stage.
