Engaging Fire Emblem: The best of Meereen’s designs

While compound classes are a staple of the Fire Emblem series, they’ve mostly stayed true to three types of mounts. Horses, pegasi and wyverns were the starting point for the high action battles. There have been some variations on modern titles, such as Griffon Knight in Awakening and Kinshi Knight in Fates, but these titles performed the same general role as pegasi in the past. In Fire Emblem: Engage, a completely new class is introduced, the Wolf Knight.

While it’s easy to compare it to the usual riding classes, Wolf Knight’s access to knives and focus on speed, dexterity, and dribbling opens the door to new strategies and gameplay that haven’t been seen before. The introduction of the Wolf Knight’s class in Chapter 13 comes in the form of Mereen, the animal-obsessed knight of Solem. Its ability to move around the battlefield is a strong asset, especially as the maps start to get thicker. With the right support and build, you’ll continue to battle hordes of Corrupted, all while looking as cool as ever.

Alear from Fire Emblem: Level up to level 2

Merrin’s baseline is incredible for the hit-and-run striker. She boasts practical strength and charm along with her impressive growth in speed and dexterity, which is further enhanced by her class bonuses. Her defensive stats are nothing to write home about, but they are far from a major weakness, especially when backed up by her ability to avoid attacks. Finally, Merrin’s Build is pretty high considering she uses swords and knives, and it’s pretty light. With her base of 9, she can use a lot of weapons without penalty, allowing her to take full advantage of her stellar speed state.

Alear changed from Dragon Child to Divine Dragon class

The original Wolf Knight Merrin fits her perfectly, offering great mobility and access to two types of weapons: swords and a knife. The Wolf Knights skill is Hobble, which reduces enemy movement by 2 if Merrin starts fighting with a knife. This allows you to limit the threat range of dangerous enemies, as long as you can get Meereen out of harm’s way after attacking. Even if she couldn’t, her ability to dodge attacks was incredible, even without an investment.

If you find you have a large number of sword users, swapping Merrin into a spear-wielding Wolf Knight can be a nice change of pace, though the axes will likely be too heavy for their Build Stats. Her naturally high speed makes her very versatile, and plenty of other classes can work well with her, should you feel the need to change your squad. Wyvern Knight provides higher strength growth, and Griffin Knight supports Merrin’s good magical state, while enabling her to fly over hard-to-reach terrain. Finally, Halberdier provides an excellent mix of stat growth, and it might be worth spending a few levels on it, depending on the rest of your team.

The best weapons

FE Engage Inventory tab

While knives are a fairly powerful weapon type, they don’t offer many options for variety. They fall into two classes, those with range 1-2, and ones with range 1. In most situations, you’ll prefer a ranged weapon, as it allows you to avoid counterattacks from melee enemies, but the increased Mt and Crit in melee knives can sometimes be a change Game rules. Besides your choice of knives, Merrin should be equipped with some swords.

Killing Edge is a great option that allows Meryn to naturally show off her high skill by buffing her Crit even further. In addition, you should totally consider providing Merrin with Levin’s sword. The Magic Stat, while not topping the charts, is powerful enough to give the Levin Sword a significant damage advantage against enemies stacked on defense. Without such an option, Meereen would be nearly useless against armored foes. Finally, you should consider engraving Merrin’s weapon with an Avo reinforcement emblem like Holy or Awakening to allow Merrin to act as a competent dodge tank, especially when parked in augmented terrain.

Alear from Fire Emblem: Engage in equipping the Marth Emblem Ring

As with any other fast unit, Merrin has two incredible options for Emblem Rings, Lyn and Sigurd. Sigurd’s boost to Canter’s mobility and reach allows Meereen to use his killer run and killer playstyle, as well as increase her damage potential with Momentum. Lyn ensures that Meryn can launch follow-up attacks even against high-speed enemies with her Speedtaker skill while providing safety with Alacrity, and strike powerfully against flying units with her reach with bows. These are two amazing choices for Merrin, although they are hotly contested episodes due to their powers. If you’ve already equipped these rings in another unit, Marth, Eirika, and Lucina grant helpful boosts that can help Merrin shine.

When choosing which skills Meereen will inherit, Sigurd and Lyn stand out above all others. These skills provide the perfect bonuses to her playstyle, increasing her speed, damage output, and ability to survive counterattacks. Canter’s repositioning ability, combined with the Wolf Knight-class skill Hobble, can allow Merrin to stay out of reach of slow-moving enemies, slicing them and allowing team members to take them out. Finally, the Dodge + 10 is a solid budget option, as other skills are quite expensive.
