A HISD bus driver was accused of hitting and kicking the student in the face

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – An ISD bus driver in Houston is behind bars a week after police said he hit and kicked a middle school student in the head.

Zamoderk Montrell Odom, 42, was charged Wednesday with child injury in connection with alleged actions during an afternoon bus ride of Pershing Middle School students on April 12.

According to court documents, Odom claimed he got on it with a student after ordering the students to get off the bus at Westridge’s 2700 block in the South Loop, which was not a regular stop on the route. He told HISD police that he drove over a bump, and the students yelled at him, which resulted in the kids telling the kids to get out.

Documents indicate that the victim was getting off the bus when the 13-year-old’s backpack cleaned Odom, prompting the driver to punch and then kick the boy in the face.

Investigators wrote that the child had a small laceration on the inside of his lower lip and also complained of pain.

Police indicated that the ordeal took place in front of a school bus surveillance camera, which, according to investigators, captured kicking and punching, as well as Odom’s cleaned backpack. Investigators also heard the driver shouting obscenities at the students.

Police arrested Odom, who was subsequently booked on a $15,000 bond, which he had not yet sent, as of Friday afternoon.

Odom is scheduled to appear in the 248th District Court on Monday.

HISD has not yet responded to ABC13’s requests for comment on Odom’s charge, mostly because the area was closed on Spring Break Friday.
