Fired up to hire a coach after running the NBA Finals in its first season

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – It didn’t take long for Ime Udoka and the Houston Rockets to figure out their next move.

The NBA club, which just finished with the second-worst record in the league, is officially out announce Tuesday, the 45-year-old former Boston Celtics head coach was named.

The terms of their agreement were not immediately disclosed.

Udoka’s only year of coaching so far in his career was his debut in the 51-win season with Boston, where he also reached the NBA Finals.

Despite this, Udoka would not order the Celtics sidelined again after he was suspended and later let go for an inappropriate relationship with a female employee.

on monday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Rockets considered the circumstances surrounding Odoka’s departure from the Celtics with the team and the league office.

The Odoka scandal was not addressed in the team’s announcement.

“Amy’s intelligence, strength, and toughness are the traits we were looking for in a coach to lead our team through this next phase of our development as we strive to become champions,” said Rockets general manager Rafael Stone. “We were honored to have the opportunity to speak to several high-profile candidates during the interview process and felt that Ime’s vision aligned better with Fertitta’s family and I’s goals for the future of the Rockets.”

Udoka and the Rockets no doubt face a plethora of questions about his past and hiring decision. An introductory press conference was not mentioned in the announcement.

The Rockets interview process began in early April after they chose not to option outgoing head coach Stephen Silas on his contract.
