Top 10 ranked low level spells

A good spell in any Dungeons and Dragons game can turn any situation in your favor. Some focus on utility, while others specialize in dealing devastating damage. With Baldur’s Gate 3 soon to be released later this year, it’s the perfect time to browse through the early access build and get a feel for the first part of the game.

Spells in the early game aren’t what you’d call catastrophic, but for casting classes they make for the toolbox of what you can do. In the first part, the spells open to you range from cantrips to level three. There are a lot of different spells you can choose, but here are the basics you should prepare.

10 guidance

Skill challenges abound in Baldur’s Gate 3. There are 18 separate skills in the game that determine your ability to persuade, sneak, perceive, and more. Kanter improves steering from all of them.

Without the cost of a spell slot, the extension feature allows you to add 1d4 to any skill roll you cast for 10 turns after you cast it. With utility spells going, there is no other app. It is most useful in the lower levels where the difficulty of the challenges is less. Although it only gives a small boost, steering manipulates the odds in your favor and is a constant blessing to have. Clerics and Druids should definitely grab it.

9 Image reflection

Baldur's Gate 3 Heart of Shadow using a mirror image

Mirror Image is the perfect color for those squishy wheels who can’t wear shields. This second level spell summons three illusions, each one raising your armor class by three. Every time you dodge an attack, the illusion disappears.

Since casters generally have the lowest health of all classes, mirror image can help keep them alive. It does not require concentration for its sustained effect, so it is useful for maintaining actual bouts of concentration. Mirror image is available for Wizards, Sorcerers, Warlocks and some Druids.

8 hold the person

Baldur's Gate 3 Hold Person incapacitated enemies

Paralysis is a devastating condition in Baldur’s Gate. Paralyzed creatures are considered helpless and unable to move or act. It also ensures that they take massive damage from melee attacks.

Hold Person is one of the few ways to paralyze your enemies. It’s limited to human enemies only, so no monsters or undead are affected, but it’s still worth preparing for. It can help you defeat an annoying enemy quickly, or at least take them out of combat for a while. It is a widely available spell for casters.

7 Magic missile

Baldur's Gate 3 magic missiles hit the target

Baldur’s Gate and Dungeons and Dragons are games of chance at their core. Almost everything that happens is up to the dice. However, there are times when you need a certain enemy gone, and you can’t take a risk, no matter how small. Magic Micell is your answer.

This spell allows you to fire three projectiles that do a small amount of damage, but cannot be missed. As long as you’re in range, you can count on this spell to always work. You can split the projectiles as you wish, and you will get another one for each level you measure. It is available to Sorcerers, Wizards, Eldritch Knights, and Arcane Rogues.

6 Agathys shield

Baldur's Gate 3 Agathys' shield protects the wizard's will

A versatile spell for both offense and defense, Armor of Agathys envelops your pony in a layer of ice. The spell gives you five temporary hit points, mainly armor points, and any enemy that hits you with a melee weapon takes five damage. Retaliation damage lasts as long as you have temporary hit points left.

Where this spell really excels is in how it measures. For each higher spell level you use to cast shields, both health and damage go up by an additional five. Agathys armor is only available to Warlocks, but it is a must-have for them.

5 steering bolt

At first, clerics do not have access to many harmful spells. It is Bolt’s steering that becomes an essential component. Since a ranged attack does 4d6 damage at the first level, it packs quite a punch.

The added advantage of giving advantage to the target’s next attack also makes it support allies. With radiation as a type of damage, it’s not often resisted. It’s a clergy-only spell, and it’s always worth a try.

4 bless

Blessing is the best support spell any team could ever want. Affected creatures get an additional 1d4 bonus to attacks and saving throws. Manipulating opportunity in your favor is something you must do at every turn.

The best part about Bless is that it can affect your entire team. You’ll have to power it up to the second level from the first, but this allows you to influence all four of your party members. In a game ruled by math and numbers, Bless makes your numbers bigger. As a sacred talisman, only Clerics and Paladins could learn it.

3 fireball

Baldur's Gate 3 Fireball Winning Fight

Keep in mind that the fireball is the gateway to high-damage spells. Its purpose is simple: make your enemies explode. It’s a great AOE spell with good range and damage that exceeds other AOE spells to this point.

While fire is usually counteracted in Dungeons & Dragons, the fireball still deals fixed damage even when halved. It’s a saving throw spell, so even when the targets hit, some damage can still be done. Wizards and Wizards, this is all for you.

2 word healing

Baldur's Gate 3 uses word healing to restore health

Healing in Baldur’s Gate is like applying a bandage to a sword wound. The healing you do can’t keep up with the damage from your enemies. Spending your actions on inhibiting wounds gives your enemy time to make more of them.

This is why the word healing is essential. Its healing output isn’t great, but you can take it out of range to help a downed ally rise again or give them a buffer against a killing blow. Most importantly, it only uses your bonus action. You can give cash treatment and keep working. Clerics and poets, this is your healing tool in the fight.

1 haste

Baldur's Gate 3 (a) Debt accelerator

Turn-based games have always adhered to the economy of work. Whichever side he can act in often has a tremendous advantage in any situation. In Baldur’s Gate 3, you often find yourself burdened with tactics as your only advantage.

You can manipulate the labor economy back in your favor by using acceleration. This spell gives you a powerful status: doubles your movement speed, doubles your armor value, and most importantly, gives you extra movement every turn. Using it on the character almost gives them a second turn in combat. Castles can cast more spells, and fighters can launch more attacks. Whatever you choose to use, Acceleration is a powerful boost that is guaranteed to make a difference. Wizards and wizards must take it as soon as possible.
