Republican Jim Marchant, an election denier who lost his race to be the top election official in Nevada in 2022, is running for Senate against incumbent Democratic Sen. Jackie Rosen.

Marchant was one of several Republican candidates for 2020 Secretary of State who promoted unsubstantiated allegations of fraud in the 2020 presidential election. He was part of the Nevada Alternative slate of pro-Trump fake voters who challenged the election results. Marchant said he would not have believed President Joe Biden won.

He announced his candidacy in the Senate Tuesday night at Fervent Church in Las Vegas. The church’s pastor fought Nevada’s COVID shutdowns in 2020. Marchant was introduced by longtime political strategist Dick Morris, who will run Marchant’s campaign as general counsel.

“I’m running for the United States Senate to protect Nevadanians from overbearing government, from Silicon Valley, from big media, from labor unions, and from radical gender-exchangers where Jackie Rosen failed you,” Marchant said.

He claimed that American freedoms are under siege due to illegal immigrants and left-wing politics. He said that freedom of expression and the right to bear arms are being taken away by the government and powerful corporations.

“The left is eliminating the right to bear arms and to defend oneself,” Marchant said. “I have a message for leftists: don’t take our guns if you’re going to stop the police from using theirs.”

Marchant previously served one term as a member of the Nevada State Assembly. He ran for Congress in 2020, losing to Democrat Steve Horsford.

Rosen tweeted her response to Marchant’s nomination: “Nevadans deserve a Senator who will fight for them, not MAGA election deniers who oppose abortion rights even in cases of rape and incest.” While alt-right politicians like Jim Marchant have spread baseless conspiracy theories, We’ve always focused on solving Nevadan’s problems.”

The race in Nevada for the Senate could be close — in 2022, the incumbent Democratic senator will relocate. Kathryn Cortez Masto He defeated Republican Adam Laxalt by less than 8,000 votes.
