According to the National Portrait Gallery’s website: “An unprecedented exhibition, revealing – for the first time – extraordinary photographs taken by Paul McCartney. In this show, we focus on photographs taken by McCartney, using his own camera, between December 1963 and February 1964 – the time when It was the Beatles going from a British sensation to a global phenomenon.

These never-before-seen photographs offer a uniquely personal perspective on what it was like to be a Beatle at the beginning of Beatlemania – and adapt from playing gigs on the stages of Liverpool to performing for 73 million Americans on The Ed Sullivan Show. Camera on the band, it’s Paul McCartney telling the true story of a band making cultural history – in one of its most exciting chapters.”

The exhibition is taking place at the Gallery from 28 June to 1 October 2023. It is free for members and sponsors or a minimum of £22 per ticket including entry to the National Portrait Gallery.
