Burger King drops Dorito chicken fries (but you might not be able to get them)

While the Doritos Locos Taco continues to be a staple on Taco Bell menus around the world, Burger King is looking to get into the good graces of its brand of tortilla chips. Select locations of the fast-food burger joint will begin selling Doritos Chili Heatwave Chicken Fries, a spicy new take on the chain’s long-running snack. Using the same chicken base, each fry is instead covered in crushed Doritos chips before being tossed in Doritos Chili Heat Wave seasoning.

If you’re hoping to get a bite of their new fried chicken, there’s one slight catch – they’re only available in the UK. Those in the area will recognize Chilli Heatwave as one of the most popular Doritos flavors in markets such as the UK, Italy and France.

This isn’t the first major innovation in chicken fries that King has launched this year. In the US, the chain introduced Spicy Chicken Fries for a limited time earlier this year. It has since been removed from Burger King’s menus after being in operation for several months.

What other new items are in Burger King?

Earlier this year, the chain unveiled its International Chicken Sandwich lineup, paying homage to American, Italian and Mexican cuisine.

The original Mexican chicken sandwich is described as having one chicken nugget lightly coated with spicy queso sauce and crunchy jalapenos on a long sesame seed bun. The American Original sandwich consists of a thinly breaded chicken patty topped with crispy lettuce and creamy mayonnaise on a long sesame bun while the Italian Original chicken sandwich features an original white meat chicken patty, coated in breadcrumbs and topped with two slices of mozzarella and mozzarella cheese. Marinara sauce on a long sesame seed bun.

The American Original Chicken Sandwich is a regular menu item, and the Italian Original Chicken Sandwich is a fan favorite that appears on the Burger King menu periodically, but this is the first time we’ve seen the original Mexican Chicken Sandwich. Previous iterations of the original International Chicken Sandwich lineup included the Original French Chicken Sandwich, which was a variation of chicken cordon bleu with mayonnaise, ham, and Swiss cheese. The International Chicken Sandwich lineup was first introduced by Burger King in 1988.
