Many of us use WhatsApp as our default messaging service, unlike the Apple Messages app, it works across devices from different manufacturers. If you’re like me, you use WhatsApp for all messages unless you have an internet connection.
But while WhatsApp is great and all, the stock wallpapers are a bit ordinary. This is why you may want to change your chat background.
Fortunately, changing the chat wallpaper on WhatsApp is very easy, and you can do it in just a few steps. One thing you have to keep in mind is that you have to set different wallpapers for both the light and dark themes, so if you change your wallpaper and then you don’t see it, that might be the reason. You can set the same image as wallpaper for both, but you will need to set the same image for both the light and dark themes separately.
We’ll walk you through how to change your wallpaper on WhatsApp for both light and dark themes, on both iOS and Android, so whether you’re using an iPhone 14 Pro or one of the best Android phones, all you have to do now is read on.
How to change wallpaper on WhatsApp
The process for changing chat backgrounds on WhatsApp is pretty much the same on both iOS and Android, although the steps differ slightly, so we’ve covered both. Android steps are made on Google Pixel and may vary slightly depending on the Android flavor you are using.
How to change wallpaper on WhatsApp: iOS
Note: WhatsApp has separate wallpapers for when your phone is in light or dark mode. You can set the same image as wallpaper for both, but you will need to set the same image for both the light and dark themes separately. To quickly switch between the two so you can change both wallpapers while in the app, we’ll use the Control Center to switch between the light and dark modes.
If Dark Mode is not added to your Control Center, Follow our guide on How to edit Control Center on iPhone And Dark mode widget added. Alternatively, you can do it manually: Go to settingsthen Click Display & Brightness And Click Light or Dark.
For the iOS tour, we’ll start in Light Mode.
1. Go to WhatsApp > Settings > Chats

Open WhatsApp And Click on the gear settings, bottom right. then Click on Chats.
2. Tap on the chat background

now Click on the chat background.
3. Select Choose New Wallpaper

Click on Choose a new wallpaper On the top.
4. Find your wallpaper

you can now Choose from a range of pre-installed WhatsApp wallpapersor Select photos to choose from the photos stored on your iPhone. or, Select the default background to return to stock. if one of them, Click on wallpaper you would like to use.
5. Adjust and set your wallpaper

Pinch, zoom and drag your wallpaper to fit. You can too Click on the movement button So that your wallpaper moves in a parallax effect when your phone moves. when you are happy Click Set.
6. Open Control Center and switch to Dark Mode

now, Swipe up from the top of the screen to open the control center, Tap on Dark Mode And Swipe up to close the Control Center.

7. Repeat steps 3 to 5, adjust the brightness

now Repeat steps 3 through 5 To select a new background for Dark Mode. for dark mode, Adjust the brightness slider To adjust the background brightness.
How to change wallpaper on WhatsApp: Android
Note: WhatsApp has separate wallpapers for when your phone is in light or dark mode. You can set the same image as wallpaper for both, but you will need to set the same image for both the light and dark themes separately. Fortunately, WhatsApp for Android allows you to switch between light and dark modes on the wallpapers page – very handy!
In the Android walkthrough, we’ll start in Light Mode.
1. Go to WhatsApp > Settings > Chats

2. Tap on Wallpaper, then Change

Pinch, zoom and drag your wallpaper To fit (note that on pre-installed wallpapers, you can’t pinch, drag, or zoom). Swipe left and right To view more wallpapers. when you are happy Click Set wallpaper.
5. Switch to Dark theme

now, Go back to the chats list And Click a topicthen Select Dark And Click OK.
6. Repeat steps 3 and 4, adjust the brightness

now Repeat steps 3 and 4 Selects a new background for a dark theme. For “dark theme”, after setting the wallpaper, Adjust the brightness slider To adjust the background brightness.
