The crossover, titled The Legend of Monkey Island, was announced during last night’s Xbox Game Show. It will be a free three-part expansion set in the fully explorable theme parks of both Mele Island and Monkey Island.


The Legend of Monkey Island is a collaboration between Rare and Lucasfilm Games, with Gilbert’s Terrible Toybox not involved. Gilbert directed the first two installments of the series, creating the iconic characters Rare uses for the crossover.

Gilbert parted ways with Lucasfilm Games prior to the release of 1997’s The Curse of Monkey Island, but returned to develop 2022’s Return to Monkey Island. Although the game was a huge success, Gilbert ended up deactivating social media due to community criticism prior to the game’s release. .

In that same interview with Sea of ​​Thieves creative director Mike Chapman, he revealed that The Legend of Monkey Island takes place shortly after The Curse of Monkey Island with Guybrush and Elaine as they honeymoon on Sea of ​​Thieves. As the trailer suggests, the likes of LeChuck end up getting sucked into the mischief that ensues.

The first part of The Legend of Monkey Island is released on July 20, with the next two parts to be released over the next two months.
