John Cho Addresses If There Were Harold & Kumar 4 (Exclusive)

Harold and Kumar It was one of the biggest indie comics successes of the 2000s, catapulting two Asian actors (Jon Chu and Kal Penn) into the spotlight as the kind of new faces we’ve never seen before as franchise pimps. the Harold and Kumar TrilogyHarold & Kumar Go to the White Castle (2004), Harold and Kumar escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008) and Harold and Kumar’s birthday too (2011) – It seems rare that Hollywood doesn’t try to expand further – but could that assumption be wrong?

ComicBook.com sat down with The Hangover’s Jun Chu and Ken Jeong to talk about their latest project together, the second season of the Apple TV+ series. the other party. During the interview, Chris Killian had to follow up with John Chu regarding comments made by Harold & Kumar co-star Kal Penn, suggesting that Harold & Kumar 4 could continue if only because the first film’s 20th anniversary was approaching:

“As far as I know we didn’t really do our job together to make Harold and Kumar 4,” Cho admitted. “But yeah, that would be fun.”

When Kal Penn spoke to ComicBook.com last fall, he jokingly tried to imagine what a fourth Harold and Kumar would look like:

“Well, if it’s Christmas wise, they might smoke a little, maybe eat some turkey and Brussels sprouts. You know, they do what they do. But they also have kids on the third, right?” Ben said. The question is because we all want to do a fourth movie, we just need to know the timing. It’s almost our 20th anniversary, so maybe we can find out something by then. “

In fact, A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas was about the titular stone people who have to deal with living and growing up, and how he puts an end to their crazy adventures. The film ends up finding a middle ground: Harold (Cho) loosens up a bit and starts smoking weed again, despite being a successful businessman and expectant father. Kumar decided to get more serious, trying to finally become a doctor while expecting his child with his love Vanessa.

To be fair, the recent turn of cannabis becoming widely legal is a fairly good hook for the new Harold & Kumar movie. Whether a couple tries opening their own dispensary, or taking a bag of weed-related goodies (much stronger than they’re used to) on a double weekend family trip, it doesn’t look like this will be hard to come up with.

Make them just need to “work together,” says John Chu.

the other party Season 2 is streaming on Apple TV+.
