10 Best Rings In Act 1

Every character in Baldur’s Gate 3 can equip two rings at any given time. There are around 25 rings total in Act 1 alone — excluding the ones without a special effect — and choosing which ones deserve a spot on your party members’ equipment slot can be a hard choice to make.

The rings are also scattered across the map and can be easy to miss if you’re not thorough in your exploration. This is a list of the best rings available in Act 1, where to find them, and how best to use them in your party.

10 Caustic Band

Caustic Band bg3

Rings that directly increase your damage are very rare. Even though the Caustic Band doesn’t look like much as it provides only 2 extra damage on your weapon attack, if you put this on someone like Lae’zel, who can swing up to four times per turn if she’s properly built as a Fighter and supported by a Wizard with Haste, the Caustic Band can dish out some serious damage.

A point against Caustic Band’s favor is how late you get access to it. By the time you get to Derryth Bonecloak, you’ll likely be around level 4-5 with a decent build put together for your party members. Still, compared to the other rings available up to this point, the Caustic Band will be a step-up.

9 Ring Of Absolute Force

Ring of Absolute Force bg3

Special Effect

Absolute’s Tempest: Gain access to Thunderwave (once per short rest) and deal +1 Thunder Damage with spells and weapon attacks. Requires the Absolute’s Brand to activate.

How To Get

Obtained by killing or pickpocketing Sergeant Thrinn (one of the Duergar) in the Grymforge.

A prerequisite of using the Ring of Absolute Force is that you need to let yourself be marked by the Mark of the Absolute from Priestess Gut in the Goblin Camp. While there are no obvious downsides to having the brand on you, some players might still want to avoid it for role-play reasons.

If you do decide to take the plunge and get the mark of the Absolute, the Ring of Absolute Force is an excellent early-game ring, especially on non-caster classes.

Giving access to Thunderwave, one of the best early-game short-range spells in the game, to a frontline fighter is a game-changer, particularly if you can bait enemies into gathering around this character.

8 Ring Of Salving

Ring of Salving bg3

Equipping the Ring of Salving on your party healer is a no-brainer. The buff is straightforward and all the more potent for it. Any time you heal someone in your party (or outside of it), they gain an extra 2 HP when you do so.

It really was only a matter of time before this happened!

Important to note is that this is not limited to healing spells. If you throw a healing potion, for example, on your party members, this will also trigger the Saviour’s Allure effect, healing them an extra +2 on top of the base heal.

7 Ring Of Evasion

Ring of Evasion bg3

Special Effect

Dextrous Evasion: Any time you fail a DEX saving throw, use your Reaction to succeed instead.

How To Get

Is given to Gale (main character) by Tara when he long rests for the first time after escaping the Nautiloid and landing at the beach.

The Ring of Evasion is a Gale exclusive, and you can only get this ring from Tara if you’re playing as Gale. If you’re playing as a Custom Character or some other Origin character, you’re out of luck. This is also the reason why this ring is not higher on the list.

With the Ring of Evasion, you almost never have to worry about a Dexterity Saving Throw. Any time a Fireball is hurtling towards you, you can rest assured that you will only take half the damage no matter what. Until you get Counterspell, a fairly late acquisition, Gale won’t have any reason not to use the Ring of Evasion, as his Reaction slot will remain unused for the majority of Act 1.

6 Shapeshifter’s Boon Ring

Shapeshifter's Boon Ring bg3

Special Effect

Shapeshifter’s Boon: Gain a +1d4 bonus to all Ability checks when disguised or shapeshifted.

How To Get

Can be obtained by killing and looting the Strange Ox in the Druid Grove (Warning: This will fail the Strange Ox questline). It can also be obtained later on in Act 2 from Dammon at the Last Light Inn.

Shapshifter’s Boon Ring requires you to use Disguise Self to activate its special effect. This is especially useful on ‘face characters’ who want to focus on Charisma and pass dialogue checks. With the Shapeshifter’s Boon, it’s like you can stack Guidance on yourself twice, and one of them is permanent!

Also, since Disguise Self doesn’t have a time limit and is a Ritual Spell, it means you can easily cast this spell once after a Long Rest and let it run for the rest of the day at no cost. The only thing you’ll need to sacrifice is a level 1 spell slot.

5 Ring Of Elemental Infusion

Ring of Elemental Infusion bg3

Special Effect

Elemental Infusion: When you deal Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, or Thunder damage using a Spell or a Cantrip, your weapon gets infused with that element. Until the end of your next turn, you deal an additional 1d4 damage of that element on your first successful weapon attack.

How To Get

Can be obtained by killing or pickpocketing Gish Umr’a’ac in the Creche Y’llek Infirmary.

The Ring of Elemental Infusion is an excellent option for spellblade characters like Pact of the Blade Warlocks who want to cast magic and swing their weapons in combat. Once triggered, the Elemental Infusion effect lasts until the end of the next turn. This means if you cast a spell, end your turn, and then use your weapon in the next turn, it will give you a bonus 1d4 on your weapon swing.

Seen a modded playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3, or want to get into modding just for the hell of it? We’re here to help you get started.

When used right, this is a powerful buff that can turn the tide in your favor. The best carriers of Ring of Elemental Infusion are characters who are using the melee & magic playstyle even before they got the ring. Classes like Warlock and Eldritch Knight are good choices.

4 Smuggler’s Ring

Smuggler's Ring bg3

Special Effect

  • Stealth Stealth +2
  • Sleight of Hand Sleight of Hand +2
  • Charisma -1

How To Get

Can be found on a skeleton by the river leading to Karlach’s location on the Risen Road. The skeleton is hidden behind a bush.

The Smuggler’s Ring is one of the best supporting items in the early game, especially if you are someone like a Rogue who is proficient in Sleight of Hand. The straight +2 to Sleight of Hand comes in handy when you’re lockpicking or pickpocketing. There are also certain dialogues where Sleight of Hand comes into play, but they’re minor.

The Smuggler’s Ring is one of the best supporting items in the early game, especially if you are someone like a Rogue who is proficient in Sleight of Hand.

The -1 to Charisma is a non-issue if you’re giving the ring to someone whose Charisma is already a dump stat (Astarion). As long as the ring is not equipped by the face character who needs the Charisma when they’re talking to people, you’re good.

3 Strange Conduit Ring

Strange Conduit Ring bg3

Special Effect

Strange Conduit: When Concentrating on a spell, the wearer’s weapon attacks deal an additional 1d4 Psychic damage.

How To Get

Can be found inside a chest in the Inquisitor’s room in Creche Y’llek, Rosymorn Monastery.

Strange Conduit Ring is one of the only early items in the game that turns the Concentration aspect of Concentration spells into something desirable. Like the Ring of Elemental Infusion, this ring is best suited for spellblade characters as the ring’s effect is only triggered via a weapon attack.

The Hunter’s Mark spell, in particular, is especially useful with the Strange Conduit Ring, as it can be cast using a single spell slot throughout the day as long as the caster maintains concentration. Both Rangers and Oath of Vengeance Paladins benefit massively by having the Strange Conduit Ring on them, owing to their access to Hunter’s Mark.

2 The Whispering Promise

The Whispering Promise bg3

Special Effect

Blessed Mercy: Healing gives a +1d4 bonus to Attack rolls and Saving throws to that character for 2 turns.

How To Get

Sold by Volo in the Druid Grove & Grat the Trader in the Goblin Camp.

The Whispering Promise functions like a better version of Bless that you don’t need to maintain concentration for. Every time you cast a healing spell on a party member, you’re effectively giving that character two turns of Bless. You can even use it to give yourself the buff by casting a healing spell on yourself.

Combined with the Ring of Salving (+2 HP healed), maintaining your party’s hitpoints will become much, much easier.

1 Ring Of Protection

Ring of Protection bg3

Armour Class is one of the hardest stats to increase in BG3, and for good reason. Every point is valuable, and having one more point in AC can mean the difference between taking the full brunt of an attack or dodging it entirely.

Saving Throws are also universally useful, and you’ll always, always, want more of it on all characters. The reason the Ring of Protection is our top choice is because any class can use it with any build, and it will prove its value time and time again.
