Starfield Player Believes They’ve Discovered A Hidden Resident Evil Reference

Highlights

  • A Reddit user has discovered an item in Starfield that closely resembles the T-Virus from the Resident Evil franchise.
  • Sadly, the discovered item is actually a decorative Hookah Canister with no actual gameplay purpose.

A Starfield player has stumbled across an item that appears to be eerily similar to the T-Virus, a deadly virus created by Umbrella Pharmaceuticals and ultimately the cause of an apocalyptic zombie outbreak in the Resident Evil franchise.

Over on the Starfield subreddit, Reddit user DeathBySnuSnu999 posted an image of the discovered item, side-by-side with the T-Virus from the Resident Evil series. The user asked if anybody else had noticed the similarities, saying that the two appear to be “awfully similar.” Given that Resident Evil is one of the most popular franchises of all time, we wouldn’t be surprised if Bethesda had slipped in a cheeky nod. After all, the studio is well known for including a plethora of different easter eggs and references in its games.

Starfield Players Call For Bethesda To Remove “Cartoonishly Bad” Environmental Hazards

The discussion around Starfield’s environmental hazards has been reignited, as players think they need to be removed or, at least, reworked.

Others were in agreeance, with one user saying, “Yup. As soon as I saw them. Which is why I’ve been collecting every single one I can find so I can make a huge collection in my apartment.” Some were more on the petrified side of what a Resident Evil x Starfield crossover could look like, with another user saying, “Space zombies and lickers and tyrants, oh my.”

So, What Is It?

Unfortunately, this Starfield item isn’t anything to get excited about, as it most certainly isn’t going to start a zombie space outbreak anytime soon. This particular item is called a Hookah Canister, and although it has a striking resemblance to the T-Virus, it doesn’t serve much of a purpose in Starfield.

The Hookah Canister is considered a junk/miscellaneous item in-game, meaning you can’t do anything other than use it as a decorative item. There’s certainly an abundance of junk to collect in Starfield, and we’d be surprised if this one wasn’t a hidden reference to Resident Evil. As for where they’re found, they appear to spawn randomly across a plethora of different planets. They do come in different colours though!

In other Starfield news, Bethesda has delayed the release of its next update. Originally scheduled to launch on the Steam Beta client earlier this week, Bethesda said that it had “discovered an issue” that needed to be addressed before release. Thankfully, Bethesda has since confirmed that the update should be set to launch at some point today.
