Z-A Will Crash The Market Of This Rare Pokemon

Pokemon Legends: Z-A was announced yesterday during a special Pokemon Presents, delighting Pokemon fans worldwide.

The excitement reached a fever pitch when the trailer revealed the setting as Kalos’ Lumiose City and a return of the fan-favourite mega evolution mechanic. A follow-up tweet from Nintendo confirmed that the entirety of Legends Z-A would occur in Lumiose City.

Every Pokemon We Spotted In The Pokemon Legends: Z-A Trailer

Lumiose City? Get ready for a lot of Furfrou.

While caught up in the frantic excitement surrounding the trailer, we watched the video back frame by frame, identifying every Pokemon we spotted. The Pokemon Furfrou was spotted numerous times, making us realise the grave implications for traders of this Pokemon on Pokemon Home.

One Of The Rarest Pokemon In Pokemon Home

Pokemon Sword Shield Furfrou Duo

As it stands, Furfrou is one of the rarest Pokemon in the Pokemon Home ecosystem. You can only get Furfrou in Pokemon X/Y, its debut game, or Pokemon Ultra Sun / Ultra Moon. These two sets of games were only released on the Nintendo 3DS, meaning you have to use Pokemon Home to transfer Pokemon from these games to the Nintendo Switch.

Furfrou is one of the few Pokemon not currently obtainable in a Nintendo Switch-era Pokemon game. This has caused Furfrou to become highly sought-after in Pokemon Home; people trade shiny legendaries for the poodle and Furfrou owners are still getting ripped off by that deal.

The return of the Kalos region heralds the return of Furfrou and the imminent crash of the Furfrou market on Pokemon Home. Owners have at least a year to get value for their investment before Furfrou begins to flood Pokemon Home after the release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Pokemon Legends ZA Bridge Scene Zoomed Out

It will be interesting to see if the announcement has any immediate adverse effects on the value of Furfrou in the trading market, even if Legends: Z-A is at least a year away.

Furfrou is modelled after the real-life French poodle, a fitting mascot for Lumiose, a city inspired by Paris. The Pokemon has nine different forms based on the style of its fur trim. These range from the Egypt-inspired Pharaoh Trim to the elegant La Reine (The Queen) Trim.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A is scheduled to release sometime in 2025 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
