Claw Them Into Shape Walkthrough

Quick Links

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the follow-up to the original Dragon’s Dogma, which was released more than a decade ago. DD2 has plenty of main quests for players to complete, which will be a great way of getting experience, but players should not shirk on exploring the many side quests — as these can also be a great source of both experience and gold.

A Veil Of Gossamer Clouds is a confusing quest in DD2. Here’s how to complete it.

One such side quest is Claw Them Into Shape, which will be picked up from the NPC known as Beren while you are near the Borderwatch Outpost. This quest can be received early on, just like some really great weapons and armor.

Procure Weapons & Find A Motivated Solider

In order to get the first objective for this quest, you will need to speak with Beren. You will be able to find them by heading on over to Moonglow Garden — which can be found west of the Borderwatch Outpost. While speaking with Beren, you will have the option to decline his request, or to “Pledge your aid”. Choosing to pledge your aid will begin this quest and give you your first objective — Procure Weapons And Find A Motivated Solider.

To procure weapons, you can get them simply by looting enemies that drop any kind of sword, or through buying them. If you opt to just buy the swords you need, you can get your hands on some over at the Borderwatch Outpost for 850 G each. Once you have three swords, head back to Beren and give them to him.

The second part of this objective is to find a willing soldier to train. You can find such a soldier named Humphrey over in the City of Vernworth — which you will travel to by simply progressing through the main quests. While near the Grand Riftstone of Vermund, this NPC will run up to you from the street. Once you have run into Humphrey, you will have the option to tell them about Beren. You can now head back to Beren for the next part of the quest.

How To Beat Beren

Dragon's Dogma 2 Second objective Claw them into shape

Upon returning, you will speak with Beren who wishes to clash blades with you in a sparring match. “Have a bout with Beren” can be completed simply by fighting against him — regardless of whether you win or lose. There are many ways you can lose this match, such as just standing in place and taking a beating, or running out of the combat ring. However, if you plan on winning, you will need to know a couple of things.

What say you? Care to spar with me a bit?

In order to win, you will need to be able to knock Beren out of the fighting ring. There are a lot of Vocations for you to explore and rank up in the game, but the easiest way to win this fight is by using the arguably best starting Vocation, the Fighter. Stay clear of Beren’s swings, as it is easy to get hit and knocked out of the right yourself. You will want to line up your attack so that Beren is between you and the outer part of the combat ring. Then use Shield Bash to send him airborne and flying out of the ring.

Once the fight is over, you will be informed of some nearby hostile goblins. You will need to follow Beren to a wounded soldier. Complete the dialogue that follows and the quest will be completed. For your troubles, you will receive 1200 XP and 4500 G.

If you are enjoying the four starting Vocations in the game, be sure to explore some of the hybrids as well. You can read this article to see how to unlock the Mystic Spearhand or this article to unlock the Magick Archer.
