While each of the regions is its own individual map that can’t be directly traveled between, they are all quite large and would take a while to run through. Luckily, each region has a Chocobo for the party to find and ride, each offering their own unique traversal abilities.

Where To Get A Chocobo In Gongaga

The Chapter 9 Objective List

Upon reaching Gongaga, players will need to leave the Buggy behind in Corel and proceed into the jungle on foot. Much of the region’s World Intel is locked off from foot travel and will need a Chocobo to reach, which can make leveling up a bit more difficult. To get a Chocobo in Gongaga, players will need to progress the main story and get towards the end of Chapter 9.

After Cloud, Barret, Red XIII, and Cait Sith head to the reactor, the player will then take over Tifa while she leads Yuffie and Aerith to join the rest of the party later once Shira appears. Upon taking control of Tifa, Cissnei will give the party grappling guns and a Chocobo. While players can free-roam for a bit without the rest of the party, the next story section at the reactor will need to be completed before the whole party can explore Gongaga on their Chocobo.

Gongaga Chocobo Ability

Tifa Riding A Gongaga Chocobo

The Chocobos of Gongaga can slide on large tree limbs and be launched in the air by large yellow mushrooms. Both of these traversal abilities are activated by approaching a yellow mushroom from the back of a large tree limb that can be slid on by sprinting into it; no need to get a running start. Every Mushroom is different and will launch your Chocobo to a predetermined spot. Mushrooms can be used as often as needed and will always be available for use. Like other Chocobos, picking up resources is very easy and can make using the Item Transmuter much easier.

Exploring a region with a Chocobo is an easy way to increase the Party Level. Fighting enemies in the open world can also help players level up their Materia and unlock stronger spells.
