  • While some fans appreciate the effort to portray a blind character like Toph accurately, many are disappointed by the inaccuracies.

Following the release of Fortnite’s new Avatar: The Last Airbender ‘Elements’ event that kicked off last week, fans have been debating whether or not Toph Beifong is lore accurate to the show.

For those who might be unaware, Toph is a character from Avatar: The Last Airbender and an earthbending master. While Toph has been blind since birth, she later discovered that she could use her earthbending abilities as a form of sight. Whether somebody is walking in the next room or behind her, Toph can feel the vibrations passing through the ground and determine exactly where that individual is.

Alongside Toph, Fortnite’s newest collaboration with Avatar: The Last Airbender also introduced new elemental bending abilities to the game, new quests, and plenty of new cosmetic items for players to get their hands on.

From April 12th to May 3rd, Fortnite players can complete new Elemental Quests and level up the Elemental Pass to receive cosmetic items such as the Dramyin Guitar and Sokka’s Space Sword Pickaxe. There’s also a premium version of the special Elemental Pass that will unlock a second layer of rewards and instantly unlock the Aang outfit.

While some fans are too busy completing all of the new quests available, others are debating over one of Fortnite’s new Avatar skins.

Over on X (formerly Twitter), a recent post from Alyn has become quite the topic of conversation in the Fortnite community. While the original author has praised Epic Games for making the Toph NPC (who can be located south-west of Pleasant Piazza) blind, other players believe this is actually not as detailed as you might think.

The user also noted that whenever you interact with Toph, she turns and faces a random direction. While Epic Games has clearly tried to make a point that Toph is blind, her abilities make her perfectly capable of knowing where people are positioned.

“This not even detailed. They’re just making another tiresome blind joke when Toph can still sense people around her,” X user Dune said. Others noted that the only time Toph struggles to determine where people are is when she is stood on sand. “Except for when she is in the sand or when she got her foot burnt this doesn’t make any sense because she is better than anyone at detection, its actually sad that they made this joke,” X user Pyromonkey said.

While plenty of users praised Epic Games for attempting to correctly portray a blind character, many were rightly disappointed by the clear inaccuracy.
