The latest Windows 11 optional update may be causing your Task Manager to not appear in the correct colors

Microsoft has added a new known issue for Task Manager in Windows 11 22H2 that is caused by the optional update KB5020044.

Microsoft has acknowledged a new issue in Windows 11, version 22H2. This latest issue only affects those who have installed the November optional update, KB5020044, and may cause the Task Manager to not display in the expected colors. While the company is looking into this and promising a fix that will come in an upcoming release, there is a workaround that can help you avoid this.

This issue was first opened by Microsoft on November 30, but only a certain group of people may be affected. This is because the task manager will only display unexpected colors and an unreadable UI if the system is set to a certain theme. That is, if you have it Choose your mode put under personalization In the Windows 11 Settings app set to habit.

Those who chose the dark or light theme will not be affected. If you have already installed this update and are bothered by this issue, you can set a file Choose your mode Revert to the light or dark theme and avoid using the custom theme. Following Microsoft’s update schedule, the potential fix could come next Tuesday, which is December 13, but the company has not confirmed it.

Although this update causes issues with the Task Manager, it fixes an issue where some applications could become unresponsive. The Windows 11 version 22H2 issue was first reported on November 18 and occurred when keyboard shortcuts were used to turn on/off or change IME (Input Method Editor) input modes in Japanese, Chinese, or Korean without error messages.

The preview update causing this issue is rather interesting, to say the least. If you can live with broken colors in the task manager, you might want to install it. I introduced some changes to Windows 11 that were in testing with Windows Insiders. The ability to set Windows Spotlight wallpapers more easily from the General Theme Settings and OneDrive Storage Settings page in the System app were two new features in it.
