EVO 2022 lineup announced: Street Fighter V, Guilty Gear, and more

Annual EVO fighting game The tournament revealed the lineup of games that will be shown in its main stage this year. The popular project was acquired by Sony last year, and it will take place with an in-person audience in 2022.

The EVO is scheduled for August 5-7, and the tradition will remain by not including it nintendo Smash Bros. in the tournament. The Japanese giant has signed a partnership with Panda Global to create an “officially licensed circuit” for its gaming tournaments. The company has also been notorious for issuing takedown notices and sending legal threats to third-party creators who host their own tournaments featuring Nintendo games.

This time around, EVO will be hosting 9 games as part of its tournament series, live from Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The lineup includes Street Fighter V, Guilty Gear: Strive, Mortal Kombat 11, Tekken 7, The King of Fighters XV, Melty Blood: Type Lumina, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Granblue Fantasy, and Skullgirls: 2nd Encore.

Following the cancellation of the EVO 2021 event, due to complications related to COVID, the fan favorite will see an in-person live audience this year. Those at home can watch the entire tournament by visiting EVO’s official Twitch channel. “We are pleased to present a list of fighting games that represent the many bases for players of this genre at EVO 2022,” said GM Rick Thiher.

“There is nothing like the energy of the global fighting games community when we come together for EVO, and I look forward to seeing what happens when we begin the next chapter of the series together later this year.” Interested players and esports organizations can register themselves by visiting the official website.

Back in 2020, EVO was held digitally online before it was canceled due to sexual misconduct allegations against co-founder Joey Cuellar. Accounts from several players from the ’90s and 2000s accused Joey of grabbing them when they were younger. In response, the company completely severed relations with him.
