Apple may unveil a 9-inch foldable device in 2025: report

Apple may unveil a foldable device with a 9-inch screen in 2025, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo tweeted yesterday, updating an earlier prediction he had made which said that Apple would launch such a device in 2024.

According to Kuo, the device that Apple is rumored to be planning to launch in 2025 will be a hybrid between iPhone and iPad.

“I think Apple’s foldable product development prioritization is medium, large, and small. Apple is testing foldable OLED around 9 (PPI between iPhone and iPad, TDDI adoption). Testing is to validate key technologies,” Kuo said in a previous tweet. It may not be the final product specification.

In 2021, Koo predicted that the Cupertino-based tech giant would introduce a foldable device in 2023, and he also predicted that it would be a big winner in the foldable category, and that global shipments would exceed 15-20 million units. Macrumors, who had first mentioned in an analyst note at the time, said the first iPhone could come with an 8-inch QHD+ (3200 x 1800) display.

If released, Apple’s foldable device would compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, which is already in its third generation; Oppo Find N, released in 2021; and Vivo X Fold, which will be launched in China on April 11th.

According to Tom’s Guide, Apple has tested two different types of devices: a foldable hybrid similar to Samsung’s Z Fold series and a foldable phone design similar to Samsung’s Z Flip range.

Macrumors mentioned that Apple could partner with LG or Samsung who could manufacture foldable displays for the company. Gorilla Glass maker Corning is also reported to be working on a foldable glass solution.
