How Lucinda Wright updated The Witcher’s outfit for Season 2

As Lucinda Wright rose to the role of fashion designer for the second season of “The Witcher,” her goal was not to make it seem like someone new had joined in behind the camera. She wanted to maintain the continuity of the first season, while adding minor changes to the costumes.

While Lauren Schmidt’s texts guided her, so did the actors. Henry Cavill, who plays Geralt, sat down with Wright to tell her about season 1 costumes and gave her feedback on what he did and didn’t like. With that, I went further and found new ways to update the costumes, making small changes while still maintaining that consistency from season one. I also looked at how the characters evolved in their imaginative journey. Cavell’s main request? “He wanted the costumes to look like second skin,” Wright says.

While she remains silent about her appearance for season three, Wright confirms that she is indeed back in action on the next set of costumes for “The Witcher.”

The costume designer broke down how she enhanced the season two look.

Witches and elves appear in “The Witcher” where Cavill’s Geralty of Rivia becomes guardian of Princess Ciri (Feya Allen). With the serious tone of season two, Wright made some subtle changes to his armor.

“I love working with leather, and with Henry’s armour, it feels great. When I first met Henry – and he loved Geralt, one of the first things we did was sit down and tell me what worked and what didn’t.

“Henry has these amazing shoulders, so it was about sprucing that up and following his silhouette. It was for him to look menacing but also graceful. I also wanted to keep the silver studded look from someone carrying it. We’ve worked for months on that actually in order to get it right. It’s It really pays to see him in him and know that he is happy.

The outfit was very light. It was created by Robert Allsop who works with me in the fashion department. One of the things we did was put the sword on his back because in season one, he would scatter it. We changed the scabbard so he could stick his arm out to touch it. We made this outfit easy for him to get out of. There was one buckle on the side, it could come in and go, which is why I made the buckles. “In total, we had eight sets of armor, one for stunts, one for riding, and one for water.

Lucinda Wright details for Yennifer

Yennifer (Anya Chalotra) and Ciri (Freya Allan) are central to the series’ plot. Wright considered Tudor influences in her designs.

This season, we’re seeing a softer side of Yennifer, so I wanted to introduce this softer approach and paint over her eye color. She had various looks, including the samurai look you see when you walk around, and there’s a coat with a bejeweled motif down the back. I think her strength is her backbone. She is as strong as anything, no matter what comes to her, so I always tend to support her.

“With her, deep down, she is as strong as anything, no matter what. So, there was a softer look to her. There was a dress [in episode 3] This is black and sequined, but it’s dripping from it, and a complete change of season 1 corduroy dress that was really restrictive. It was important to have a lilac around it.”

For Ciri, her wardrobe has changed as her personality has evolved. She began to train more, and her wardrobe became more practical as the character developed. Wright kept her color palette bright with green, enhancing her green contact lenses.

“All the characters had their own color palette. It very much mirrors Geralt in some way, as a child of fate. Her appearance almost resembles her own corset and armor.”
